Full Job Description

Works under the general supervision of the medical director or designee to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders including in center and out of center sleep testing, diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, comprehensive patient care and direct patient education. Is able to perform the duties defined for a Registered Sleep Technologist (RST) or Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT).

Certification by a nationally recognized certification board and holds either the Registered Sleep Technologist (RST) or Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT).

Successful completion of an accredited educational program leading to a certificate or associate degree with an emphasis in sleep technology OR
Successful completion of a sleep technology program associated with a state-licensed and/or nationally-accredited educational facility or equivalent experience and documented proficiency for all competencies required of a sleep technician.

Responsibilities:

Review patient history, verify physician orders, and assess patient-specific needs to ensure safe and appropriate testing.
Prepare patients for in-center and home sleep studies by verifying identification, obtaining consent, explaining procedures, and providing education regarding testing and PAP therapy.
Select, set up, calibrate, and maintain sleep study equipment, including application of electrodes and sensors according to AASM and other accepted standards.
Perform diagnostic polysomnography, PAP titration, oxygen titration, MSLT, MWT, parasomnia studies, and home sleep apnea testing (HSAT) in accordance with physician orders and established protocols.
Monitor patients and study data throughout testing, identify and correct artifacts, document clinical observations and significant events, and implement appropriate interventions to ensure patient safety and data quality.
Conduct PAP mask fitting and desensitization and provide patient instruction for home sleep testing and PAP use.
Score sleep stages and clinical events, including respiratory events, cardiac abnormalities, limb movements, and arousals, using current AASM scoring criteria.
Generate accurate and timely reports summarizing study findings for physician interpretation.
Download, review, and evaluate data from portable monitoring equipment and identify inadequate signals or failed studies.
Clean, disinfect, and perform routine maintenance of sleep laboratory and portable monitoring equipment; monitor inventory and supply levels.
Respond to patient questions and provide clear, compassionate education regarding sleep disorders and testing procedures.
Participate in quality assurance activities, review studies for accuracy, and provide feedback to staff as appropriate.
Maintain compliance with HIPAA, infection control, safety standards, and all applicable laws, regulations, and accreditation requirements.
Demonstrate strong critical thinking, communication, customer service, teamwork, and computer skills while working independently with minimal supervision.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
