Advanced High Speed Internet is a locally owned Internet Service Provider serving communities from Selah and Wenas to West Richland and Kennewick, Washington and everything inbetween. As we continue expanding our fiber optic network throughout the Yakima Valley, particularly in the East Valley/Moxee area, we are seeking an experienced Fiber Optic Plant Foreman to lead the construction of our outside plant infrastructure.
This is a hands-on leadership position for an individual who enjoys working in the field, leading crews, solving problems, and taking ownership of projects from start to finish. You will be responsible for overseeing the safe and efficient construction of aerial and underground fiber optic facilities while working closely with our Company Engineer and OSP team. This is a 9-5:30 Monday -Friday position but sometimes may require weekend work or after-hours restoration/emergency work. Occasional weekly on-call on a rotational basis is required. Typical hours are 40/week however depending on needs of business may be as much as 55/week rarely exceeding this amount during heavy construction periods.
We are looking for a candidate with previous utility or telecommunications construction experience who can organize labor effectively, maintain a productive work environment, and consistently deliver quality workmanship.
Previous fiber optic splicing experience is preferred but not required. We are willing to train the right individual.
This position is based in Yakima, Washington. Local applicants are strongly preferred. We are not considering out-of-state candidates at this time, and relocation assistance is not available.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead daily construction activities for aerial and underground fiber optic infrastructure.
- Maintain ultimate responsibility for the safety of yourself and crew members on each job site.
- Coordinate construction activities with the Company Engineer and OSP team.
- Organize crews, equipment, and materials to maximize productivity and maintain project schedules.
- Construct aerial and underground fiber optic plant in accordance with engineering plans and company standards.
- Install conduit, pedestals, vaults, handholes, and other outside plant infrastructure.
- Install residential and commercial fiber drops.
- Perform, or be trained to perform, fiber optic fusion splicing and testing.
- Operate excavators, mini excavators, trenchers, skid steers, and other construction equipment safely and efficiently.
- Ensure company vehicles, trailers, and equipment are properly maintained and cared for.
- Read and interpret construction drawings, utility maps, and engineering specifications.
- Maintain accurate project documentation and as-built records.
- Ensure all work complies with company standards, customer expectations, applicable codes, and industry best practices.
- Participate in emergency outage restoration and after-hours work when required.
Required Qualifications
- Previous construction experience, preferably in telecommunications, electric utility, or underground utility construction.
- Demonstrated understanding of crew operations, including ground personnel, aerial work, traffic control, equipment operation, and material handling.
- Proven ability to lead projects with minimal supervision.
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and documentation skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Experience operating heavy equipment, including excavators, mini excavators, skid steers, trenchers, or similar machinery.
- Strong understanding of the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) and National Electrical Code (NEC), with the ability to safely perform work within the communications worker safety zone.
- Ability to lift 75 pounds or more.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Comfortable working at heights and around energized utility infrastructure.
- Valid Washington driver's license with a clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
- Fiber optic fusion splicing experience.
- Previous experience supervising or leading construction crews.
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- Experience operating bucket trucks, digger derricks, or cranes.
- Knowledge of utility locating, trenching, and underground construction methods.
