The Staff Geologist works with the Geology Team to support surface and exploration programs through drill-rig check-ins, geologic and geotechnical logging, mapping, drilling daily-report reconciliation, data management, and technical support for exploration activities.

The Staff Geologist is an individual contributor who reports to the Chief Geologist and works collaboratively with the broader geology team. Their contributions are critical to mission success and are aligned with, and support, the team’s overall operational and exploration objectives.

Conduct daily checkins at drill rigs and support drill supervision in accordance with established procedures

Conduct surface and drillcore geological and geotechnical mapping and data collection

Log diamond drill core and maintain accurate geological and geotechnical records

Reconcile and support approval of drilling daily reports (DDRs) and associated records

Enter, validate, and maintain exploration, drilling, mapping, and sampling data in the geological database

Work with Exploration, Mine Geology, Technical Services, Operations, laboratories, contractors, and other departments as needed

Assist with geological interpretations, studies, and exploration projects; perform other tasks as required in support of company objectives

Help plan and coordinate surface exploration drilling programs, including drill sequencing, site preparation, access, scheduling, and logistical requirements.

Promote and maintain a strong safety culture by ensuring drilling and field activities comply with company policies, MSHA requirements, site procedures, and applicable regulations; identify and communicate hazards

The incumbent must have proficient knowledge in the following areas:

Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology

25 years of professional experience in mining, resource development or exploration geology

Surface exploration, resource definition or drilling exposure preferred
-
Experience with logging diamond drill core and rockchip samples including the accurate recording of lithology, alteration, mineralization, structure, and geotechnical characteristics

Drilling program management and coordination and other contractor management is highly regarded.

Familiarity with mineralized systems, rock alteration, and geologic and structural mapping

Experience with skarn and base metals systems preferred

Strong understanding of mining operations and drill techniques

Capable of utilizing latest computer & software technologies such as Microsoft office products, acQuire GIM Suite, and 3D software such as Leapfrog, Deswik.

The incumbent works a minimum 40 hour/week schedule in support of department objectives. Position may require weekend or evening work depending on organizational and operational requirements. Personal Protective Equipment required for the field work portion of this position includes, but is not limited to, hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toed boots. All equipment must be MSHA approved as applicable.
