Vice President of Sales — Grocery Channel

Reports To: Executive Leadership
Direct Reports: Business Development Managers, Grocery Channel
Travel: Extensive nationwide travel required

Position Summary

An established consumer-products company is seeking an experienced Vice President of Sales to lead its national Grocery Channel business. This executive-level position is responsible for channel strategy, revenue growth, profitability, key-account relationships, and sales-team performance.

The Vice President of Sales will work closely with executive leadership and cross-functional partners to expand the company’s grocery-channel presence, strengthen retailer relationships, and achieve sustainable financial results.

Key ResponsibilitiesSales Strategy and Channel Performance

Develop and execute the national sales strategy and annual operating plan for the Grocery Channel.
Own channel performance, including revenue growth, profitability, trade spend, forecasting, and headcount planning.
Establish individual and team sales goals and monitor performance against established targets.
Analyze sales results, customer performance, market trends, and competitive activity to guide business decisions.
Identify and develop new accounts, markets, and growth opportunities within the Grocery Channel.
Evaluate opportunities for private-label, co-branded, exclusive, and customized grocery retail programs.
Ensure compliance with company pricing guidelines, approved trade-spend parameters, and contractual obligations.

Key Account Management and Business Development

Build and maintain senior-level relationships with national and regional grocery retail partners.
Develop and oversee strategic account plans for key grocery customers.
Lead customer presentations, contract negotiations, pricing strategies, business reviews, and program development.
Partner with the sales team to introduce new programs and expand business within existing and prospective grocery accounts.
Serve as the primary liaison between grocery retail leadership and the company’s executive leadership.
Represent the company at trade shows, retailer meetings, and other industry events.

Team Leadership

Lead, coach, and develop a geographically dispersed team of Business Development Managers.
Clearly communicate performance expectations and hold team members accountable for results.
Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and development.
Build organizational bench strength through succession planning, talent development, and effective workforce planning.

Executive and Cross-Functional Leadership

Present sales results, forecasts, business risks, and strategic recommendations to executive leadership.
Represent Grocery Channel priorities in company-wide planning and decision-making.
Collaborate with other sales leaders to identify cross-channel opportunities and align sales strategies.
Partner with Marketing, Operations, and Finance on merchandising programs, promotional strategies, pricing, inventory planning, and demand forecasting.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Minimum of 15 years of progressive sales experience, including significant sales-leadership responsibility.
Grocery Channel sales experience.
Demonstrated experience building, leading, and developing a sales or account-management team.
Proven success managing relationships with national or regional grocery chains and generating measurable revenue growth.
Experience with retail P&L ownership, annual operating plans, budgeting, forecasting, trade-spend management, and merchandising programs.
Strong executive-level presentation, negotiation, contract-management, and strategic account-planning skills.
Experience presenting business reviews, forecasts, and strategic recommendations to senior and C-suite leadership.
Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a remote, geographically dispersed sales team.
Proficiency with CRM systems, sales analytics tools, and Microsoft Office.
Ability and willingness to travel extensively for customer meetings, trade shows, and company meetings.

Preferred Qualifications

Greeting-card, consumer-products, or related retail-sales experience.
Experience with grocery category management, private-label programs, or exclusive retail partnerships.
Bachelor’s degree.

Compensation

The anticipated compensation range for this position is $100000 to $120000 annually, based on experience, qualifications, and geographic location. Additional incentive-compensation and benefit information will be provided during the recruitment process, as applicable.
