York Country Club is seeking a personable, organized, and hands-on Head of House to help lead our front-of-house operations and create an exceptional experience for our members and guests.
York Country Club is one of York's premier destinations for dining, socializing, golf events, weddings, corporate gatherings, and celebrations. Position Summary
The Head of House will play a key leadership role in the day-to-day operation of the front of house. This position will oversee scheduling, staff training, service standards, and overall guest experience while working closely with the Clubhouse Manager, Kitchen Manager, Bar Manager, and Event Planner.
This is a hands-on leadership position. The ideal candidate will be comfortable jumping in to wait tables, assist the team during busy services, and do whatever is needed to ensure members and guests receive exceptional service.
The Head of House will also have the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with members, learn their preferences, and help create the welcoming atmosphere that makes York Country Club a special place to gather.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day front-of-house operations and ensure consistently high service standards.
- Create and manage employee schedules based on club activities, events, and anticipated business levels.
- Lead by example by actively working alongside the front-of-house team and waiting tables or assisting with service as needed.
- Train, coach, and develop servers and front-of-house employees to provide professional, friendly, and attentive service.
- Establish clear expectations for service, appearance, communication, and professionalism.
- Foster a positive, team-oriented culture where FOH and BOH work together toward a common goal.
- Build strong, genuine relationships with members and guests and create a welcoming environment where people enjoy returning.
- Work closely with the Kitchen Manager, Bar Manager, and Event Planner to ensure smooth coordination between front and back of house.
- Assist with ordering and maintaining appropriate front-of-house supplies and inventory.
- Help monitor service-related costs and identify opportunities to improve efficiency.
- Assist with planning and execution of weddings, corporate events, tournaments, member events, and other special gatherings.
- Help ensure the club is prepared for each event and that food and beverage service is executed seamlessly.
- Address member and guest questions or concerns professionally and work toward positive resolutions.
- Identify opportunities to improve the member experience and bring forward ideas to club leadership.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional front-of-house environment.
- Support club policies, safety standards, and applicable food and beverage regulations.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in hospitality, restaurant service, club management, or a similar customer-facing leadership role preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- A genuine passion for hospitality and creating exceptional guest experiences.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, train, and motivate a team.
- Excellent organizational and scheduling skills.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and willing to lead from the floor when needed.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to consistency.
- Ability to build authentic relationships with members, guests, and coworkers.
- Professional, positive, and approachable demeanor.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events as needed.
