Human Resources Generalist

Salem, Ohio | On-site manufacturing | Full-time

This search is being conducted confidentially. Company identity will be shared with qualified candidates during the recruiting process.

1. About the Organization

A confidential manufacturing organization is strengthening its on-site Human Resources support in Salem, Ohio. The position works directly with plant leadership and frontline employees in a unionized operating environment and is intended for an experienced HR professional who can provide reliable day-to-day ownership.

2. The Opportunity

This role is for a self-sufficient HR Generalist who can independently execute core HR processes, protect payroll and timecard accuracy, and serve as a dependable advisor to leaders and employees without requiring constant oversight. The position is hands-on, visible, and closely connected to daily plant operations.

3. What You'll Do

Own day-to-day HR process execution, including accurate payroll and timecard administration.
Provide practical guidance to managers on employee relations, HR policy, compliance, and routine people decisions.
Support frontline employees as an accessible, credible HR resource for questions, concerns, and workplace issues.
Coordinate onboarding activities and help create a consistent, efficient new-hire experience.
Handle routine HR matters independently, using sound judgment and escalating higher-risk issues when appropriate.
Maintain accurate records, HR data, and system transactions with strong attention to detail.
Build productive working relationships with plant leadership while remaining visible and engaged with the workforce.
Operate effectively across multiple priorities in a fast-moving manufacturing setting with ongoing hiring and workforce needs.

4. What Success Looks Like

Payroll and timecard processing is accurate, timely, and consistently dependable.
Routine HR decisions are handled effectively at the site level, reducing unnecessary leadership escalations.
Onboarding moves efficiently and provides employees with a clear, consistent start.
Managers receive clear, practical HR guidance that improves day-to-day people leadership.
Employees experience a more visible and responsive HR presence on the plant floor.
HR execution contributes to stronger communication, employee connection, and workforce stability.

5. Work Environment

On-site role in a fast-paced manufacturing plant with a unionized workforce.
Daily interaction with both plant leadership and frontline employees.
High-volume environment with ongoing hiring activity and changing day-to-day priorities.
Success requires proactive ownership, strong follow-through, accuracy, and comfort making routine HR decisions independently.
Typical workload is approximately 40-45 hours per week, with a flexible early-morning start window between 6:00 and 8:00 a.m.

6. What We're Looking For

3+ years of Human Resources experience with enough breadth to operate independently in a generalist capacity.
Working knowledge of employment law, HR compliance, and employee relations.
Strong attention to detail, especially in payroll, timekeeping, documentation, and administrative execution.
Ability to learn quickly, retain training, and apply sound judgment without repeated direction.
Comfort engaging directly with employees and influencing managers without formal authority.
Strong general computer and HR-system capability.
Comfort working in a unionized manufacturing environment with a visible, plant-floor HR presence.
