Alta Head Start is currently seeking Preschool Assistant Teachers for the 2026-2027 school year in locations across Trumbull and Mahoning counties. Job Summary
Alta Preschool Assistant Teachers will assist the Lead Teacher in planning and implementing learning experiences in the classroom that advance the learning, social and emotional development, and physical development of the children in our program. They act as a key component in the development of a safe and healthy learning environment and help prepare children for kindergarten.
Essential Functions:
Assists the teacher in all classroom activities, lesson planning, child assessments, etc.
Assist in instructing and supervising children in classroom activities.
Participates in the screening, observation, and documentation of children.
Maintains a safe and healthy learning environment by keeping the classroom clean and orderly.
Continuously monitor children to ensure safety at all times, and report child abuse and neglect when necessary.
Assists in the completion of all necessary paperwork for classroom activities including screenings, parent/teacher conferences, meal counts, home visits, etc.
May be required to take charge of the classroom in the Lead Teacher’s absence.
Qualifications:
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Must maintain a neat and professional appearance at all times.
Must be able to relate to individuals of all ethnic and social-economic backgrounds.
Ability to work independently and within a group when necessary.
Responsible for personally maintaining current certifications and/or licensures.
Must be able Standards to meet required qualifications such as; BCI/FBI background check (including sex offender registry and SACWIS check), ODJFS medical statement and screening for tuberculosis, etc.
Required Education/Experience
A minimum of a Preschool Child Development Associate (CDA) required. Associates in Early Childhood Education acceptable. Previous preschool experience a plus. Willing to consider a candidate without the required education level with appropriate preschool experience and willingness to complete the Child Development Associate as a condition of continued employment (financial assistance provided).
