Full Job Description

Overview

Our family is seeking an experienced, credentialed personal chef to prepare all daily meals for an adult family member recovering from a traumatic brain injury (TBI). The chef will work from a well-equipped private kitchen in the San Marco neighborhood of Jacksonville and will be a central part of a coordinated recovery team that includes the patient’s physicians, therapists, and registered dietitian.

The person we hire is not simply cooking meals. Consistent, high-quality nutrition is part of this patient’s recovery plan, and we are looking for a chef who understands that, cooks to that standard every day, and takes visible pride in the presentation of every plate. Meals should be clean, whole-food based, nutrient-dense, and genuinely enjoyable to eat.

Grocery shopping is not part of this role. All shopping, sourcing, and stocking is handled by the family. The chef submits a weekly ingredient list and menu plan; the family purchases and stocks everything before the cooking week begins. The chef’s time is dedicated entirely to planning, preparation, cooking, plating, delivery, service, and kitchen care.

Schedule and Service Structure

Phase One — Rehabilitation Facility (August 24 through approximately September 5, 2026)

The patient is currently completing inpatient rehabilitation and is expected to be discharged on or about September 5, 2026. During this period:

All meals are prepared in the family’s San Marco home kitchen.
Three days per week, the chef delivers and serves lunch and dinner at the rehabilitation facility, providing full table service. Linens, silver, and serviceware are supplied by the family; the chef sets the table, plates and serves the meal, and clears and returns everything to the residence.
On the remaining days, family members transport meals from the home to the facility. The chef prepares and packages these meals with clear labeling and reheating instructions.
Breakfast each day is prepared and packaged for transport by the family.
The chef confirms and complies with all facility policies on outside food, delivery hours, visitor access, and food storage. (The family will provide facility contacts and any current dietary orders from the care team.)

Phase Two — In-Home Service (from approximately September 5, 2026, ongoing)

Once the patient returns home, all meals are prepared and served in the residence. The rehabilitation delivery component is replaced by [outpatient therapy meal support / in-home service — to be confirmed], and the weekly schedule will be reviewed together at that time.

Weekly Pattern (both phases)

Monday – Thursday

On-site cooking. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner prepared fresh or portioned for same-day service.

Friday

Regular meal service plus batch preparation of all Saturday and Sunday meals, properly portioned, labeled, dated, and refrigerated. Includes reheating and finishing instructions written for family members.

Saturday – Sunday

No chef presence required. Family serves the meals prepared on Friday.

Delivery days

Three days per week (days to be set together), lunch and dinner delivered and served at the rehabilitation facility with full table service.

Exact daily hours are flexible and will be set with the successful candidate. Occasional schedule adjustments around medical appointments and therapy sessions should be expected.

Pay: $35.00 - $45.00 per hour
