Manager Histology
JCA Personnel Consulting has been retained by Onvida Health to identity and vet candidates for their Manager Histology position. Onvida Health is a large health care system with a main facility of nearly 500 beds, two new facilities, 40 plus clinics/MD offices, 500 MD’s/AP’s, 4000 FTEs, and $3.5 in gross revenues. The lab is STATE OF THE ART with a complete modernization project that doubled the square footage and integration of advanced automated testing technologies boosting diagnostics capabilities. Outstanding opportunity to grow with the system and be an integral part of developing new lab operations for newly acquired/built facilities.
Summary:
FTE’s - 5 Histology techs, 5 MLS’s, 2 Pathology Assistants, and an administrative assistant. There are leads over histology and MLS’s. 30,000 cases per year. High volume and it’s increasing year over year, at least 15-20%
The Histology Manager will oversee the daily operations of the histology/cytology lab, ensuring high-quality and timely processing of tissue and cytology samples. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of laboratory practice.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and supervise the histology laboratory staff, including hiring, training, and performance evaluations. Oversee the preparation, processing, and analysis of tissue and cytology samples. Ensure compliance with all regulatory and safety standards.
- Develop, complete, maintain, and monitor QA/QC/PM processes to assure quality outcomes. Develop and implement laboratory protocols and procedures and maintain document control.
- Conduct functional verification, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting on all equipment, maintaining proper documentation. Participate in the introduction, investigation, and implementation of new procedures and evaluation of new instruments.
- Collaborate with pathologists and other medical professionals to support diagnostic activities. Monitor laboratory inventory and order supplies as needed.
- Prepare and manage the laboratory budget and engage staff in efforts to contain costs and improve efficiency and cost-effectiveness of services.
- Identify program or service growth opportunities and methodologies to enhance revenues.
- Collaborate with LIS Analysts and IT department on all aspects of PIS system administration and application related project objectives.
- Communicate how individual actions contribute to the overall good of the institution and how individual and section goals overlap with Onvida’s goals.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Biology, or related field and 7 years related experience OR bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science, Biology, or a related field and 3 years related experience.
- Certification as a Histotechnologist (HTL) or Histotechnician (HT) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent.
Strong knowledge of histology techniques and procedures.
Excellent leadership and communication skills.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
Proficiency in laboratory information systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
Knowledge of laboratory accreditation processes and quality assurance programs.
