About the Position:
The Design Engineer III serves as the engineer of record for small to medium-sized projects and select strategic accounts. This role assumes full engineering responsibility once a project is awarded and leads the development of comprehensive construction and project documentation to support system staging, installation, commissioning, and programming by the operations team.
This role actively participates in internal peer reviews, applies AV9000 quality checklists as part of Level 3 AV’s Quality Management System, and serves as a subject-matter expert across key AV technologies. The Design Engineer III works closely with Sales, Operations, Solutions Architects, and Project Managers to ensure technical alignment, clear communication, and smooth project execution across all phases of delivery.
What You Will Do:
Job Responsibilities:
- Serve as the project engineer of record for small to medium-sized projects and select strategic accounts, taking ownership of system design, documentation, and engineering deliverables.
- Develop comprehensive construction documentation packages, including equipment plans, reflected ceiling plans, elevations, sections, electrical and conduit layouts, signal flow diagrams, rack elevations, power calculations, network documentation, and other project-specific deliverables.
- Create cable pull schedules, label extracts, equipment power tables, network summaries, network schedules, and functional checklists to support successful installation, commissioning, and programming.
- Design fully integrated AV systems and private AV IT networks, ranging from isolated control networks to Layer 3 managed networks using VLANs, multicasting, and customer uplinks.
- Interpret architectural drawing packages to ensure AV systems are accurately coordinated and integrated into each project environment.
- Partner closely with Solutions Architects, Sales, Operations, and Project Managers to confirm project scope, identify unknowns, resolve design changes, and maintain alignment throughout the project lifecycle.
- Participate in internal peer reviews, apply AV9000 quality management checklists, and provide feedback to improve quality, reduce workflow bottlenecks, and increase operational efficiency.
What We’re Looking For:
Education and Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or a combination of education and relevant experience.
- AVIXA CTS-D Certification required.
- AQAV CQD Certification preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as an AV Design Engineer.
- Experience performing high-level AutoCAD drafting in a professional AV environment.
- Experience creating construction-quality AV drawing packages and technical documentation.
- Experience designing integrated AV systems and AV IT networks.
- Experience supporting small to medium-sized projects, strategic accounts, or enterprise-level AV environments preferred.
What We Prefer:
- Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD, including Sheet Sets, annotative tools, block libraries, dynamic blocks, tool palettes, XREFs, and other advanced drafting concepts.
- Proficiency in Bluebeam Revu and Microsoft Office applications, including Excel.
- Strong ability to read, interpret, and redline AV construction drawings for accuracy and completeness.
- Thorough understanding of AV systems integration, including audio reinforcement, microphones, AV conferencing, video routing and distribution, control systems, equipment storage, and IT/networking.
- Subject-matter expertise in technologies such as HDBaseT, IP video switching and distribution, Crestron NVX, Extron NAV, SDVoE, EvertzAV, control system architecture, USB switching and distribution, soft codec system design, microphone planning, audio DSP design, direct-view LED, tiled video wall arrays, and video wall processing.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and with clients.
- High attention to detail with the ability to manage deadlines and handle increasing project complexity.
- Ability to understand and apply technical documentation, including equipment manuals, installation guides, procedures, and policies.
- Valid driver’s license with an exemplary safety record.
- Ability to travel locally and remotely within the U.S. as needed.
- Ability to operate ladders or lifts as needed during the commissioning process.
- Demonstrated professionalism when working on customer property and awareness of sensitive work environments.

Pay: $100,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
