Senior Tax Operations CPA – IRS Resolution & Client Support

Location: Peachtree City, GA (In-Office)

ERTC Express helps businesses navigate complex federal tax credit programs, including the Employee Retention Tax Credit (ERTC), FFCRA credits, and other specialty tax incentive programs. We work directly with business owners nationwide to manage claims, resolve IRS-related issues, and support clients through every stage of the process.

Our team operates in a fast-paced, high-accountability environment focused on operational excellence, compliance, and exceptional client service.

Position Summary

ERTC Express is seeking an experienced Senior Tax Operations CPA to support our growing IRS Resolution, tax operations, and client account management functions.

This role is focused on helping clients navigate IRS correspondence, pending payment issues, amended return matters, audit support, and tax-related operational workflows. The ideal candidate has strong technical accounting knowledge, excellent written communication skills, and the ability to manage complex client matters in a high-volume environment.

This is not a traditional public accounting role focused on tax return production. Instead, this position is highly operational and centered around IRS resolution, client support, compliance oversight, and internal coordination.

Key Responsibilities

IRS Resolution & Correspondence Management

Review, analyze, and respond to IRS notices, correspondence, and payment-related issues
Draft professional written responses to IRS inquiries and client escalations
Assist clients with resolving delayed refunds, amended return issues, identity verification matters, and other IRS-related concerns
Track and manage open IRS cases through resolution
Coordinate with internal teams and external professionals regarding IRS matters and documentation requests

Tax Operations & Compliance

Support operational oversight of client tax credit files and workflows
Review payroll tax filings, amended returns, and supporting financial documentation for completeness and accuracy
Assist with compliance monitoring and internal quality control procedures
Stay current on IRS guidance, regulatory changes, and tax credit program developments impacting clients

Tax Operations & Compliance

Audit & Reconciliation Support

Assist with audit preparation, documentation gathering, and financial reconciliations
Review supporting records and identify discrepancies or missing information
Support internal audit and account review initiatives
Help maintain accurate records and reporting across large volumes of client files

Client Account Management

Communicate directly with business owners regarding claim status, IRS notices, and account issues
Provide clear and professional guidance regarding IRS processes and timelines
Maintain detailed records of client communications and case activity
Support escalated client situations with professionalism and urgency

Team Collaboration & Process Improvement

Collaborate with operations, compliance, legal, and client service teams
Assist in developing and improving internal processes and documentation standards
Support leadership on operational initiatives and special projects
Contribute to a culture of accountability, responsiveness, and continuous improvement

Qualifications

Required

Active CPA license
7+ years of accounting, tax, audit, or tax operations experience
Strong understanding of IRS processes, payroll tax filings, and tax notice resolution
Experience handling client-facing tax or accounting matters
Exceptional organizational, analytical, and communication skills
Strong attention to detail and follow-through
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Preferred

Experience with ERTC, payroll tax credits, or amended payroll tax returns
Experience responding to IRS correspondence and audits
Background in tax resolution, IRS controversy, or payroll tax operations
Experience working with small business clients
Familiarity with payroll systems and tax documentation workflows
