Cook Job Description (Assisted Living Facility)

Position Title: Cook
Location: Annie's Assisted Living Facility at Magnolia Manor
Schedule:

Friday: Full Day
Saturday: Full Day
Monday: Evening Shift
Additional shifts may be available to provide coverage for vacations, call-outs, and special events.

Position Summary

Annie's Assisted Living Facility at Magnolia Manor is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and experienced Cook to join our team. This position is responsible for preparing nutritious, home-style meals for our residents while maintaining the highest standards of food safety, sanitation, and customer service. Our ideal candidate enjoys working with seniors, takes pride in preparing quality meals, and contributes to creating a warm, welcoming dining experience.

Essential Responsibilities

Prepare and serve breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, and beverages according to the facility's approved menu.
Follow physician-ordered diets and special dietary requirements, including diabetic, low-sodium, mechanical soft, and pureed diets.
Ensure meals are prepared, portioned, and served in a timely manner.
Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen in accordance with local health department regulations and food safety standards.
Properly store, label, and rotate food using FIFO (First In, First Out) procedures.
Monitor food temperatures and maintain required food safety logs.
Wash dishes, cookware, utensils, and kitchen equipment as needed.
Assist with inventory management and notify management when food or supplies need to be reordered.
Minimize food waste while maintaining high-quality meal preparation.
Work closely with caregivers and management to accommodate resident preferences and nutritional needs.
Maintain a positive, respectful, and professional attitude with residents, families, and coworkers.
Assist with holiday meals, special events, and family gatherings as requested.
Follow all facility policies, infection control procedures, and emergency preparedness protocols.
Perform other dietary and kitchen duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Previous cooking experience in an Assisted Living Facility, nursing home, healthcare setting, restaurant, or commercial kitchen preferred.
Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
Experience preparing meals for large groups preferred.
Ability to prepare modified diets and therapeutic meals is a plus.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Dependable, punctual, and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
Compassionate and patient with older adults.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
Frequently lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
Ability to bend, reach, stoop, and perform repetitive kitchen tasks.
Ability to work safely around hot equipment and kitchen appliances.

Preferred Qualifications

Food Handler's Certificate or ServSafe Certification (preferred or willing to obtain).
Experience working with the elderly or in a senior living environment.
Knowledge of Florida Assisted Living dietary standards is preferred.
