About the Role

As an Editorial Data Reporting Intern, you will contribute to original, data-driven journalism that helps readers better understand trends and developments across the legal system. We are seeking an intern with strong analytical and reporting skills who is interested in transforming data into compelling stories and insights. This role combines data analysis, research, and editorial storytelling. During this 10-week internship, you will work closely with Law360’s data team, editors, and reporters to research, analyze, and present data in clear and compelling ways. This role offers hands-on experience producing enterprise reporting in a collaborative newsroom environment. By the end of the internship, you will produce a data-driven feature story for publication on our site.

Location Requirements: This role can be performed anywhere within the United States.

Eligibility: Recent graduates who have completed an undergraduate or graduate program.
How to Apply: Candidates must submit a resume and a sample of a published data project they have worked on, including either a link to a portfolio or website (including GitHub) or relevant academic or personal projects to be included on their resume or cover letter.

Responsibilities

Research and develop at least one original, data-focused enterprise story for publication during the internship.
Analyze data to identify trends, patterns, insights, and support ongoing editorial projects.
Contribute to data gathering, cleaning, and interpretation from multiple sources, including public records.
Collaborate with reporters and editors to integrate data into news and feature stories and shape story ideas.
Support the creation of data visualizations for stories and special projects.

Requirements

Be a recent graduate with a bachelor’s or master’s degree in data journalism, journalism, communications, public policy, or a related field of study.
Experience working with and incorporating data into news or feature stories (academic, internship, or personal projects).
Demonstrate the ability to gather, analyze, and interpret data from diverse sources, including public records.
Experience cleaning and organizing complex or messy datasets.
Possess working knowledge of data analysis tools such as Excel, SQL, Python, and/or R.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including a strong narrative and visual storytelling ability.
Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively with editors and reporters.
