Head Start Family Assistant
Committee for Early Childhood Development Head Start (3 locations in Jamaica and Hollis) is looking for well-qualified Family Assistants. The scope of responsibilities includes enrolling families, maintaining attendance and continuous family support.
QUALIFICATIONS
* Must have an AA Degree or higher in Human Services/Social Work, or have a high school diploma and commit to completing the Family Development Credential.
* Applicants with a Family Development Credential will be strongly considered
* Must have one (1) years’ experience in a social service and/or preschool setting.
* Must have the knowledge and ability to relate to families from diverse cultures.
* Must be able to work with community groups and partners.
* Must be computer literate and be able to utilize Microsoft Word and Excel, as well as other various databases.
*Must have good communication skills and be fluent in verbal and written English.
*Must have a flexible schedule.
* Must be a U.S. citizen or have a green card.
* Must complete screenings from the NYC Department of Investigation, NYC Department of Education and the NY State Central Registry. The DOI fingerprint fee is $101.75, the DOE fingerprint fee is $101.75 and the NYS Central Registry fee is $25.00. All fees are the responsibility of the candidate.
* Applicants who speak Spanish, Creole or Urdu will be strongly considered.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
* Recruiting and enrolling children and families.
* Developing and maintaining a referral system for assisting with family needs and goals and to empower families.
* Developing and maintaining working relationships with community resources/partners.
* Assisting in encouraging parents to be involved in all components and programs of the center.
* Assisting families in obtaining proper health, dental and nutrition services, and maintaining current and accurate records of all medical and dental screenings.
* Establishing and maintaining open communication with families, staff and community partners.
* Assisting with the implementation and facilitation of parent and staff workshops.
Compensation: $36,085.00 - 40,429.00 annually, depending on qualifications and credentials
