Reports To: Dir. of Purchasing & Warehouse Mgmt.
American Roofing & Metal Co. is looking for a skilled Mechanic to keep our construction equipment fleet operational and production-ready. Equipment downtime is lost revenue — this role is critical to maintaining the uptime our field crews depend on every day. You'll be measured on turnaround speed, preventative maintenance adherence, and fleet availability.
Equipment Maintenance & Repair

Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical issues across generators, welders, blowers, compressors, boom trucks, trailers, and other construction equipment

Perform minor and major repairs; replace parts and restore equipment to full functionality

Maintain accurate repair records: date, issue, parts used, labor time, and status

Coordinate outside service for repairs beyond in-house capability
Welding & Fabrication

Perform structural and component welding on equipment, tools, and custom fixtures

Fabricate metal components and attachments to improve equipment performance

Inspect all welds and fabrication work for structural integrity and safety compliance
Preventative Maintenance

Own and execute the preventative maintenance calendar: oil changes, filter replacements, system checks

Prioritize PM work based on production needs and equipment utilization

Track equipment performance trends; identify issues proactively before they cause field breakdowns
Maintain fleet DOT compliance in coordination with the Safety department

Parts Inventory & Logistics

Manage parts, tools, and welding materials inventory; reorder before stock-outs cause delays

Coordinate with Warehouse and field crews to ensure equipment is dispatched in operational condition

Verify equipment readiness before dispatch; tag and quarantine any unit needing repair
Safety & Shop Management

Adhere to all safety regulations when performing repairs, welding, and equipment operation

Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free shop environment

Conduct regular safety audits of the shop area

Ensure all repaired equipment meets safety and compliance standards before returning to service

3+ years of experience as a mechanic working on construction or heavy equipment

Proficiency in welding (MIG, TIG, and/or stick) and metal fabrication

Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills across diesel and gas-powered equipment

Working knowledge of DOT vehicle compliance and inspection requirements

Ability to maintain organized repair records and parts inventory

Valid driver's license; CDL a plus

Self-directed with the ability to prioritize competing demands from multiple field crews
