Esperanza School offers a unique teaching environment, providing individualized instruction for students with Autism, Intellectual Disabilities, Emotional Disabilities, Other Health Impairments, Traumatic Brain Injuries, and Developmental Delays. Our approach, rooted in Applied Behavior Analysis and evidence-based teaching practices, empowers students to develop academic, social, vocational, and life skills. We are dedicated to improving their quality of life and helping them become active, engaged members of their community.
You'll Find Fulfillment in Teaching Small Class Sizes, with Just 10 Students in Each Classroom. Each Classroom is Staffed with: 1 Dedicated Special Education Teacher, 1 Registered Behavior Technician, and an Average of 3-4 Paraprofessionals. Our Clinical and Behavioral Teams Provide Valuable Support.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and implement age-appropriate curriculum for students.
- Utilize a curriculum aligned with research-based strategies and Common Core Essential Standards.
- Monitor, assist, and train paraprofessionals in the classroom to work with students.
- Collaborate within a multi-disciplinary framework with therapists, teachers, administrators, and support staff to ensure an effective instructional and therapeutic program.
- Conduct student assessments and use the results to create IEP and skill acquisition goals.
- Collaboratively monitor IEP, behavior, and other data to ensure academic progress.
- Maintain timely and accurate reports and documentation for each student, as required by the school, state, and referral districts (IEP goals, track goals, IEP reports, lesson plans, grades, IEP paperwork).
- Implement the educational approaches used by Esperanza School (training will be provided).
- Accompany students on field trips and community outings.
- Adhere to students' Behavior Intervention Plans developed by the Behavior Therapist/Behavior Analyst and attend regular meetings for plan training.
- Assist in collecting behavior data as directed by the Behavior Therapist/Behavior Analyst and ensure data collection continuity in the absence of the Behavior Therapist.
- Special Education teachers will be trained in Safety Care.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education.
- Illinois State Certification in LBS I or LBS II, limited or unlimited (Previous Type 10).
- Ability to climb stairs and move quickly throughout the building in response to client needs.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and engage in sustained physical activity throughout the workday.
- Experience with non-verbal students/students using AAC is a plus
