Full Job Description

Job Description

An equine veterinary technician plays an integral role of the inner workings of our Wellington hospital from assisting with diagnostic procedures to completing treatments on hospitalized patients. Daily activities include: assisting veterinarians during work ups, performing physical exams, preparing and giving medications, bandaging or wrapping, feeding and watering, stall cleaning, keeping nurse notes, and maintaining accurate medical records. The candidate will work under the guidance of a supervisor.

Follow all company policy and procedure
Follow veterinarian procedures as directed
Maintain accurate medical records & nursing notes
Perform general cleaning of treatment rooms, stalls, and hospital facilities
Maintain facility cleanliness and sanitization: stall cleaning, barn chores, stripping & washing stalls, treatment rooms
Follow policy and procedure on hospital operations, biosecurity, isolation
Adhere to safety protocol
Assist in medical and diagnostic evaluation
Prepare and give medications via IV catheter, IM, SQ, PO, PR
Collect, prepare, label, & submit laboratory samples (blood, urine, feces)
Perform basic laboratory testing
Replenish/restock treatment room areas daily
Maintain facility grounds during off season
Complete quarterly inventory
Be timely and organized with a high case load

Job Qualifications

The ideal candidate is someone with significant horse experience looking to grow in the veterinary sector. This person must portray themselves professionally, communicate with others, and be able to work in a fast-paced and high-demand setting. The ideal candidate should have knowledge on handling and moving around various horses in a safe manner.

High school diploma or equivalent required
Experience working with horses required (Minimum 2 years) Show horse, race horse, grooming, managing, working student background preferred
Must have general equine knowledge of anatomy and basic medications
Comfortable handling/restraining horses
Ability to jog or walk with patients as needed
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
Ability to navigate veterinary information systems
Capable of recognizing emergency situations
Critical thinking
Positive attitude
Effective at communication
Efficient at multi-tasking
Ability to handle fast-paced high-pressure situations
Be a self-starter, reliant, and have a strong work ethic
Capable of standing for several hours at a time
Communicate clearly and accurately via telephone
Basic computing skills required. Ability to learn computer software/information systems
Must be able to lift 50+ pounds on a regular basis.
Must be able to work well under pressure in a quick-moving environment
Adhere to all policy and procedure
Ability to perform all technician duties
Must be able to follow directions

Salary

Starting at $18 to $20 per hour, commensurate with experience and education. Night shift differential eligible. Weekend differential eligible. 4-days, 10.5hr shifts or 5-days, 8.5hr shifts.
