Position Overview: We are seeking a highly experienced Project Geologist for a direct placement opportunity with one of our valued clients in the mining industry. This is a hands-on technical and leadership role requiring strong expertise in VMS-style deposit geology, remote field operations, and NI 43-101-compliant data management. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and executing exploration programs, managing field teams and contractors, and delivering technical results that advance the project toward resource growth objectives.
This role offers the opportunity to make a direct and meaningful impact on a high-priority exploration project in one of the world's premier mining jurisdictions.
Key Responsibilities:
Permitting & Regulatory Compliance
Understand and maintain compliance with Alaska Department of Natural Resources (ADNR) permitting and reporting requirements.
Identify, correct, and report environmental infractions promptly.
Ensure all field operations comply with applicable US environmental, safety, and governmental regulations.
Geological Field Work & Mapping
Conduct geological mapping at prospect and local scales in tectonically complex and regionally metamorphosed rocks.
Construct geological cross-sections to support structural interpretation and resource modeling.
Carry out field prospecting and geochemical sampling programs.
Support drill site activities, including locating and aligning drill collars.
Review and log historical drill core in accordance with established logging procedures.
Data Management & QA/QC
Manage all project data and maintain an organized, audit-ready geological database.
Receive, compile, and analyze field data, integrating results into the existing database in accordance with established QA/QC protocols.
Ensure compliance with mapping and sampling QA/QC procedures.
Perform checks of geologic and geochemical data prior to importation into the master database.
Ensure exploration plans and reported results conform to NI 43-101 standards.
Geological Interpretation & Modeling
Compile data, initiate, test, and propose means to advance geological interpretation.
Aid in, update, or complete geological and geochemical models.
Exploration Program Planning & Execution
Plan and execute exploration programs within allocated budgets, including:
Target generation through geological mapping, geochemical sampling, and geophysical surveys.
Drill testing of exploration targets.
Participate in the selection of exploration contractors and technical consultants.
Field Operations, Safety & Team Leadership
Supervise and direct field geologists and geotechnicians during active exploration programs, including oversight of:
Geological mapping programs at prospect and regional scales.
Ground and airborne geophysical surveys; coordinate with geophysical contractors to ensure data quality and program objectives are met.
Soil and rock geochemical sampling programs, including sample collection protocols, chain of custody, and QA/QC compliance.
Provide geological support to exploration projects in Nevada and New Mexico as needed.
Uphold and enforce safety and environmental protocols for all contractors and employees on project sites; ensure proper and pre-emptive safety practices are always followed.
Reporting & Communications
Maintain up-to-date QGIS and Leapfrog workspaces and manage project data within the MX Deposit database platform.
Produce maps, cross-sections, and figures for technical meetings and Company marketing materials.
Prepare daily reports and presentations summarizing fieldwork activities and insights.
Assist in writing specific sections of annual technical reports.
Regularly report to senior management on project status, exploration results, and program progress.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science or higher in Geology or Geophysics; emphasis on ore deposits or mineral exploration preferred.
Minimum 10 years of professional experience in mineral exploration geology; more experience is a strong asset.
Demonstrated experience with VMS-style deposits (volcanogenic massive sulphide) is a significant advantage.
Remote exploration experience required, preferably in Alaska or a comparable environment.
Experience supervising field geologists and geotechnicians.
Experience managing or participating in diamond drill programs, including drill hole logging, sampling, and target generation.
Non-proprietary examples of field maps, notes, and cross-sections are encouraged with application.
Technical Skills
Proficiency with QGIS and Leapfrog required; experience with MX Deposit database platform is a strong asset.
Familiarity with Alaskan geology, ADNR permitting processes, and the metallogeny of Alaskan VMS/SEDEX districts is an asset.

Physically able to repetitively lift and carry 35 pounds; able to hike in alpine arctic terrain and adverse weather conditions on a rotational basis.
Working Conditions:
This position requires extended periods working in a remote field camp in the Alaska Range during the summer exploration season (June through September). During the field season, hours and schedule are dictated by program demands. From October through May, the position operates on a standard Monday through Friday schedule from an office or home-office setting. Travel to project sites in Nevada and New Mexico is required periodically throughout the year. Candidates must be physically fit and prepared for demanding alpine arctic conditions, including hiking in adverse weather and working at elevation.
