Full Job Description

Lab Manager

Job Overview:

The Lab Manager is responsible for the reassembly, operation, and ongoing management of Glenro's laboratory in Maysville, KY. The lab is the operational backbone of Glenro's "Proven Solutions" trademark — the place where heat-processing applications are tested and proven before production-level equipment is designed. In Phase 1, the Lab Manager will lead the physical and operational reassembly of the lab following its relocation from Paterson, NJ. In Phase 2, the Lab Manager will own the customer and internal engineering test schedule, support Factory Acceptance Tests, manage rental equipment testing, and provide engineering support on selected repairs. The role requires a balance of process engineering knowledge and hands-on production experience, with process knowledge as the primary lens.

Organizational Structure:

- Reports to: Sales Manager

- Collaborates with: ConLam Production Manager (shared resources), Process Engineers, Mechanical and Electrical Designers, Project Engineers, Sales Engineers, Estimators, Quality, and Production Teams

- Supervises: None (pulls support from ConLam and engineering teams as needed)

Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Process, or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and applied industry experience

- 5+ years of hands-on experience in process testing, pilot plant operation, or applications engineering — heat processing, drying, curing, laminating, or coating preferred

- Working knowledge of production environments and the ability to operate, troubleshoot, and assist in repair of industrial process equipment

- Comfort with project-style work and ambiguity; ability to take a partially disassembled lab and restore it to operating condition with limited direction

- Strong understanding of laboratory and shop safety practices, including OSHA compliance, lockout/tagout, electrical safety, and handling of process materials

- Customer-facing capability — able to host customers during Factory Acceptance Tests, present results clearly, and represent Glenro professionally

- Strong written and verbal communication skills for test reports, customer documentation, and cross-departmental coordination

- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); ability to learn ERP and project management systems

- Willingness to travel occasionally to customer sites for installs, witness tests, or troubleshooting (limited travel expected)

Responsibilities:

Phase 1: Lab Reassembly (first 6–12 months, transitioning to steady state as equipment comes online)

- Lead the physical reassembly of lab equipment relocated from Paterson, NJ to Maysville, KY

- Inventory all lab components, identify gaps, and develop a prioritized reassembly plan with target operational dates

- Coordinate with ConLam Production, engineering, and outside contractors as needed to restore utilities, install equipment, and verify operational readiness

- Establish lab safety protocols, operating procedures, and documentation standards from the ground up

- Commission each piece of lab equipment, verify performance against specification, and document baseline operating parameters

- Provide regular reassembly status reporting to the Sales Manager and leadership team

Phase 2: Ongoing Lab Operations (lab fully operational)

- Own and maintain the lab test schedule, balancing customer test requests, internal engineering and applications testing, and rental equipment validation

- Plan, execute, and document customer process tests in support of "Proven Solutions" — operating heat-processing equipment, capturing data, and producing test reports that inform production equipment design

- Support Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) for production equipment — coordinating with production, hosting customers, running test protocols, and documenting results

- Test and validate rental equipment before deployment and upon return

- Provide engineering support on selected equipment repairs, drawing on lab experience and process knowledge

- Collaborate with Process Engineers, Sales Engineers, and Estimators to scope test programs, define success criteria, and feed results back into quotes and design

- Maintain lab equipment, utilities, and safety standards on an ongoing basis

- Document lab procedures, test methods, and results to build the institutional record that supports "Proven Solutions" credibility

- Contribute to continuous improvement of test methods, lab capabilities, and the customer testing experience

KPIs:

Phase 1 KPIs

- Lab reassembly milestones met against plan (equipment online, utilities verified, safety protocols documented)

- Target date for first customer test on relocated equipment

- Completeness of operating procedures and safety documentation

Phase 2 KPIs

- Test schedule turnaround time from request to scheduled test date

- Customer test report quality, accuracy, and timeliness

- FAT support reliability and customer feedback

- Rental equipment testing throughput and accuracy

- Lab safety record and audit results

- Positive feedback from Sales, Engineering, and customers on lab availability, responsiveness, and test quality

Pay: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
