Position Number: 009478

Salary Range: $42,011 - $57,765
Anticipate Hiring Range: $42,011 - $52,514

Work Schedule:

8:00 am - 4:30 pm; Monday - Friday with occasional evening and weekend hours required, as necessary.

Mandatory Position

This position is designated as mandatory and, when contacted to report to work, its incumbent is expected to reach the building as expeditiously as possible using normal precautions as dictated by the adverse weather conditions.

Primary Purpose of Position:

This is a Facility Maintenance Technician (Mechanical Trades) at the Journey level. The position is considered to be fully functioning in the HVAC trade area. Additionally, this position is expected to be able to perform hydronic piping repair and replacement of control valves in systems with copper and steel pipe. Tasks may include maintenance, repair, placement, fabrication, installation, alteration, construction, and design of facility components in the HVAC Shop.

Minimum Education/Experience:

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from high school or equivalent. Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the positions role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Essential Job Duties:

The FM Tech Mechanical Trades performs under the direction of the Facilities Management HVAC Shop Supervisor.

Duties include:

Responsible for performing routine maintenance of HVAC equipment to ensure that equipment continues to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, and/or the physical condition of buildings does not deteriorate.
Use electrical test devices to troubleshoot and repair primary and control circuits..
Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them by checking blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs as necessary.
Use standard HVAC tools. This includes precision measuring instruments, electrical devices, and electronic testing devices.
Using knowledge and skill with Building Automation Systems (BAS) to complete tasks as needed.
The ability to look up and order parts.
E.P.A. 608 Refrigerant certification universal
Valid drivers license. The selected candidate must have the mental and physical capabilities to perform the positions essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation

Other Work Responsibilities:

Work with minimal supervision or instruction and complete work with high competence and professionalism in compliance with generally accepted trade practices.
Communicate effectively with customers and managers to provide high-quality customer service based on university policy and procedures.
Record daily activities using a tablet in the work order tracking system (Archibus).
Perform other duties as assigned and delegated, dependent on HVAC Shop needs.

Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:

Professional HVAC experience, including experience with HVAC controls for Building Automation Systems experience
Basic electrical and plumbing knowledge.
Ability to effectively communicate the English language (reading, writing, interpretation, and comprehension) and to foster and create an atmosphere of teamwork.
Effective skills in verbal, written, and interpersonal communication.
Computer literacy required. Knowledge and skill with Google Systems, and willingness to learn new programs.

Necessary Licenses or Certifications:

Valid drivers license needed for the position
EPA 608 Universal certification is needed for the position

Positions may be required to possess and maintain required certification, licensure, educational level, and/or experience criteria as applicable to the tasks being performed and follow applicable building codes.
