Job Summary
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Referral Coordinator to join our dynamic healthcare team. In this vital role, you will serve as the primary point of contact for managing patient referrals, ensuring seamless communication between providers, insurance companies, and patients. Your expertise will help streamline referral processes, verify insurance coverage, and coordinate appointments efficiently. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to improved patient care and operational excellence within a fast-paced medical environment.

Responsibilities

Manage and process patient referrals from start to finish, ensuring timely and accurate submission.
Verify insurance coverage and benefits using managed care protocols to facilitate smooth authorization processes.
Coordinate appointment scheduling with healthcare providers, specialists, and external facilities.
Maintain detailed medical records related to referrals, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations for patient privacy and confidentiality.
Utilize medical terminology, CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) codes, and ICD (International Classification of Diseases) codes such as ICD-9 and ICD-10 to accurately document procedures and diagnoses.
Communicate effectively with patients, providers, insurance companies, and other stakeholders to resolve issues or clarify referral details.
Ensure all documentation adheres to office policies and regulatory standards related to medical records and medical coding.

Requirements

Proven experience in a medical office setting or healthcare environment, preferably with referral management responsibilities.
Strong knowledge of managed care procedures, insurance verification processes, and medical coding including CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding systems.
Familiarity with HIPAA regulations to safeguard patient information at all times.
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities efficiently.
Proficiency in medical terminology and experience working with medical records systems.
Previous medical office experience is a plus but not required.
