Position Summary:
Working independently and interdependently with other HealthPoint providers, the Licensed Midwife (LM) provides full scope midwifery care in ambulatory and community settings to low-risk patients, with consultation and co-management of moderate to high-risk patients. Provides pregnancy, prenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum care, lactation support, newborn health services, family planning and gynecological care. Precepts student midwives and other learners, offering mentorship and education with hands-on clinical experience and training. Provides clinical care for parents and babies in home and clinic settings. While the LM role currently does not include attending births, the position is structured to allow for future expansion into intrapartum care as the program evolves.
Compensation is dependent on skills and experience.
Your contribution to the team includes:
- Assess patient needs for specialty referrals, diagnostic, and ambulatory care consistent with evidence-based, trauma informed, culturally appropriate care consistent with midwifery standards.
- Provide patients and family member with counseling and education regarding health maintenance, disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and the need for follow-up as appropriate during each patient visit. Verify and document that the patient understands the diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up recommendations.
- Responsible for accurate, timely, and completed documentation in patient records and superbills.
- Work in collaboration with midwife colleagues, FPOBs and other HP providers to ensure clinical practice is closely aligned.
- Provide individual and group clinical care to include prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, newborn care up to 2 weeks, gynecological, family planning and lactation care with appropriate training.
- Conduct prenatal, postpartum and newborn home visit appointments according to clinical protocols and patient needs, and coordinate follow-up postpartum and newborn care.
- Administer medications and perform minor outpatient procedures in accordance with HealthPoint credentialing policy.
- Provide consultation to other clinic providers and collaborate with outside specialists for consultation, referrals and comanaging care.
- Clinical preceptor to supervise, teach, and mentor midwifery students, medical students, residents, doulas, and other learners.
- Contribute to curriculum development, simulation-based learning, and clinical skills training.
- Facilitate learner evaluation and feedback, modeling professional and evidence-based midwifery practice.
- Assist with meeting clinic patient care team productivity and quality care standards while centering patients and community.
- Participate in the development and utilization of HealthPoint practice guidelines and procedures and participate in audits and meet standards of HealthPoint Quality Improvement, Risk Management, and Utilization Management programs.

- Maintain credentials essential for practice to include licensure, professional society memberships, continuing education, and certifications required for licensure and credentialing.
- Engage with community organizations, public health partners, and perinatal support networks to promote maternal, newborn, and reproductive health.
- Attend staff meetings, in-service meetings and participate in agency committees and task force activities as required.
Must have’s you’ll need to be successful:
- A Graduation from a Midwifery Education Accreditation Council–approved midwifery program required, along with four (4) or more years of providing midwifery care at an expected volume that demonstrates competency in core aspects of practice.
- Must have experience delivering patient‑centered, non‑judgmental options counseling and must be able to provide comprehensive preconception and family planning services, as well as prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, lactation, and newborn care. Prior involvement in home visiting or community‑based perinatal programs essential, as is experience serving as a preceptor or educator for student midwives or other learners. A strong commitment to reproductive justice, culturally responsive care, and health equity also required.
- Position requires an active Washington State Licensed Midwife (LM) credential or eligibility for licensure upon hire, including any necessary prescriptive license extensions.
- Candidates must hold current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and CPR/BLS certifications and are expected to annually update and maintain a written plan for consultation, emergency transfer, and transport in accordance with regulatory standards.
- If providing contraceptive prescribing or device services, the midwife must obtain and maintain all required prescriptive extensions. Ongoing compliance with certification, training, and continuing‑education requirements is essential. Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) credentialing is desired but not mandatory.
- Knowledge of computer equipment and basic level of Word, Excel, and Outlook required.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common industry related journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write reports and articles for publication that conforms to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, clients, external groups, and/or boards of directors.
- Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Work situations are vaguely defined, often unprecedented, and unique in character. Problems are very complex, abstract, conceptual, and long-term in nature. There is a continual requirement for strategic, innovative thought and synthesis of information as it pertains to work situations.
If you know about the following it’s a plus:
- Experience with IUD/Nexplanon insertions and removals preferred. Training in basic ultrasound and providing group-based care a plus. Experience working skillfully with interpreters, refugees, and in facilitating groups also preferred.
- Fluency in language other than English desired.
- Experience with Epic EHR a plus.
Proof of vaccination for COVID-19 is required, prior to start. HealthPoint does not accept the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine as proof of vaccination. Additionally, if you work in a HealthPoint clinic, Tdap (within last 10 years) is required. Hepatitis B. is required for clinical employees with potential exposure to blood/blood products. All immunizations are a condition of employment. Upon hire, employees must provide proof of their immunizations and/or immune titer results prior to starting or no later than their fifth (5) business day of employment.
