Staff Accountant
Department: Finance / Accounting
Reports To: Controller
Position Summary
The Staff Accountant supports the day-to-day accounting operations of El Cortez Hotel & Casino by maintaining accurate financial records, preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, assisting with the month-end close process, and ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and company policies. This position works closely with multiple departments to ensure financial information is accurate, timely, and complete.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare and post daily, weekly, and monthly journal entries.
- Reconcile general ledger, bank, and balance sheet accounts.
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes.
- Prepare account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
- Maintain and analyze financial records for accuracy and completeness.
- Assist with fixed asset accounting, depreciation schedules, and asset tracking.
- Prepare and reconcile prepaid expenses and accrued liabilities.
- Review financial statements for accuracy and identify variances.
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities.
- Support internal and external audits by preparing requested documentation.
- Maintain accounting schedules and supporting documentation.
- Process and reconcile intercompany transactions, when applicable.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and internal controls.
- Assist with tax reporting, regulatory filings, and gaming-related financial reporting as required.
- Prepare financial reports for management.
- Partner with Accounts Payable, Payroll, Revenue Audit, Cage, and other operational departments to ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, efficiencies, and internal controls.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and GAAP.
- Understanding of general ledger accounting and financial reporting.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, PivotTables, and data analysis.
- Experience using accounting software and ERP systems.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive financial information.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment.
QualificationsEducation
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
Experience
- Two to five years of accounting experience preferred.
- Experience with month-end close and financial reporting preferred.
- Casino, hospitality, or gaming industry experience is a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
- Frequent use of computers, calculators, and other office equipment.
- Ability to communicate effectively in person, by telephone, and through written communication.
Working Conditions
- Professional office environment within a casino and hotel setting.
- Occasional extended hours may be required during month-end, year-end, audits, or special projects.
- Frequent interaction with employees, department managers, vendors, auditors, and regulatory agencies as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with casino accounting systems and gaming regulations.
- Knowledge of payroll, accounts payable, revenue audit, and cage accounting functions.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience with ERP systems such as NetSuite or similar accounting software.

Pay: $62,774.02 - $75,598.82 per year
