Full Job Description

Job Summary
We are seeking one or more Chemistry Analysts / Analytical Chemists to join our ISO-accredited cannabis testing laboratory. This position is open to candidates ranging from recent graduates with strong laboratory aptitude to experienced chemists with hands-on analytical instrumentation experience.

The successful candidate will perform sample preparation, instrument operation, data review, and routine laboratory tasks in support of cannabis compliance testing. Depending on experience level, the position may also include troubleshooting analytical instrumentation, assisting with method improvements, and providing technical guidance to junior staff or laboratory technicians.

This position may occasionally require weekend or off-hour coverage as part of a rotating schedule to support laboratory throughput and timely client service.

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

Prepare and analyze cannabis and cannabis-related samples in accordance with approved SOPs.
Operate analytical instrumentation such as HPLC, LC-MS/MS, GC-MS, GC-FID, ICP-MS, and related laboratory equipment.
Perform routine instrument maintenance, calibration checks, and basic troubleshooting.
Review analytical results for accuracy, completeness, quality control acceptance, and compliance with internal procedures, ISO requirements, and state regulations.
Ensure sample preparation, chain of custody, data entry, and documentation meet regulatory and internal quality standards.
Maintain accurate records, reagent inventories, standards, consumables, and instrument logs.
Follow laboratory safety procedures, including proper use of PPE and handling of hazardous chemicals, compressed gases, cryogenic liquids, and cannabis-related materials.
Participate in method improvements, quality initiatives, investigations, and corrective actions as assigned.
Communicate clearly with supervisors, laboratory staff, and other departments regarding workflow, sample status, instrument issues, and data quality concerns.
Participate in a rotating schedule that may include weekend or off-hour coverage to support laboratory operations.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, Forensic Science, or a related scientific field.
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written procedures accurately.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, regulated laboratory environment.
Strong organizational, documentation, and communication skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn laboratory software systems.
Ability to work independently after training while also functioning effectively as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

The following qualifications are preferred but not required:

Experience in a regulated laboratory environment, such as ISO/IEC 17025, NELAP, EPA, FDA, GLP, GMP, pharmaceutical, environmental, forensic, food, or cannabis testing.
Hands-on experience with HPLC, LC-MS/MS, GC-MS, GC-FID, ICP-MS, or similar analytical instrumentation.
Experience with sample preparation techniques, calibration curves, quality control samples, internal standards, and analytical batch review.
Experience reviewing chromatographic or mass spectrometry data.
Familiarity with cannabis compliance testing, including potency, pesticides, residual solvents, metals, mycotoxins, terpenes, moisture, or related analyses.
Demonstrated ability to train, mentor, or assist junior laboratory staff.

Experience Level

We are open to candidates at multiple experience levels:

Entry-Level Analyst:
Suitable for recent graduates or candidates with limited professional laboratory experience. Training will be provided in sample preparation, instrument operation, data systems, quality control, and laboratory procedures.

Experienced Analyst / Analytical Chemist:
Suitable for candidates with prior experience operating analytical instrumentation, reviewing data, troubleshooting methods or equipment, and working in a regulated laboratory environment.

Final title and compensation will be based on education, experience, technical skill level, and demonstrated ability.

Working Conditions

Expected to wear proper PPE in accordance with SDS, SOPs, and laboratory safety requirements.
May be exposed to moderate noise.
Expected to work with or near hazardous chemicals, solvents, acids, compressed gases, cryogenic liquids, cannabis, and cannabis-related products.
Work is performed in a laboratory environment with routine use of analytical instruments, computers, balances, pipettes, extraction equipment, and standard laboratory tools.
May occasionally require weekend, evening, or off-hour coverage as part of a rotating schedule.

Physical Requirements

Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
Ability to walk, bend, reach, and perform repetitive laboratory tasks.
Ability to climb stairs and ladders as needed.
Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
Visual and auditory acuity sufficient to perform laboratory work, read labels, review data, and respond to alarms or safety concerns.
Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for pipetting, weighing, sample preparation, and instrument setup.

Management / Reporting Structure

This position does not have formal personnel management or HR supervisory responsibilities.

This position reports directly to the Laboratory Manager or designated laboratory supervisor. Day-to-day training, mentoring, feedback, work assignments, and performance reviews will be provided by the direct supervisor in consultation with laboratory management.

Experienced candidates may be asked to assist with technical guidance, peer training, troubleshooting, and workflow support, but this does not include formal disciplinary authority or direct personnel management unless separately assigned.
