Full Job Description

We are a fast-paced, high-volume New York City personal injury law firm seeking an experienced Liens Clerk to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, detail oriented, proactive, and capable of independently managing lien resolution throughout the life of a case.

This position plays a critical role in maximizing client recoveries by ensuring all liens are identified, monitored, updated, negotiated, and resolved from case inception through settlement.

Responsibilities

Manage all liens from case inception through settlement and disbursement.
Identify and investigate all potential lien holders and reimbursement interests.
Order, review, and maintain updated lien statements.
Communicate regularly with lien holders regarding balances, reductions, and negotiations.
Maintain accurate lien information within the firm's case management system.
Follow up on outstanding requests to ensure lien information remains current.
Review medical bills, payment histories, and insurance information for accuracy.
Coordinate with attorneys, paralegals, and the closing department regarding lien status.
Calculate and reconcile medical expenses and outstanding balances.
Negotiate lien reductions when appropriate.
Prepare lien summaries for settlement conferences and closings.
Ensure all lien documentation is complete prior to settlement.
Resolve lien issues promptly while maintaining detailed file notes and follow-up tasks.
Stay current on changes affecting healthcare reimbursement and lien laws.

Qualifications

Minimum of 3 years of lien experience in a New York personal injury law firm.
Thorough understanding of:
New York No-Fault Law
Workers' Compensation liens
Medicaid liens
Medicare conditional payments and final demands
ERISA and self-funded health plans
Private health insurance reimbursement claims
Medical billing and provider balances
Experience obtaining and reviewing lien statements and medical billing records.
Strong negotiation and communication skills.
Exceptional organizational and time management abilities.
Ability to manage a large volume of cases while meeting deadlines.
High attention to detail and accuracy.
Experience with personal injury case management software, including SmartAdvocate, is strongly preferred.
