Full Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

As a Coder, you will manage and execute coding inpatient and outpatient notes. Will assist with the audit of daily clinic charges. Must have knowledge of CPT and ICD-10. Assist staff with appeals of denied claims as needed. Attend continuing education seminars and provide feedback to Physicians and staff on coding and compliance issues as related to billing. CPC required. Full time M-F 8-5.

JOB DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

Reviews and codes inpatient and outpatient clinical notes for physician documentation.
Coordinates and reconciles encounters to ensure complete charge capture.
Charge entry of coded services into the billing system in a timely manner.
Work in conjunction with A/R team on follow up and resolution of coding related denials and rejections including recommendation of new /updated coding edits.
Assists in the development of coding education programs for in-service meetings.
Tracks denial patterns for nephrology practices to address systemic issues.

Patient Statement

QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience in coding and/or reimbursement activities is preferred.
Clinical background and previous chart abstraction experience is also preferred.
Must be familiar with third party fee profiles and reimbursement requirements.
Experience with Encoder Pro or AAPC Coder is highly preferred.
Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology is preferred.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

One of the following

Certified Coding Specialist (CCS),
Certified Coding Specialist –Certified Professional Coder (CPC®)
Credential or Certified Outpatient Coder (COC®)

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Incumbent is responsible for maintaining current knowledge of coding guidelines and relevant federal regulations through the use of current CPT-4, HCPCS II, and ICD-9/ICD-10 materials, the Federal Register, and other pertinent materials.
