Job Overview
N.W. White & Company, Inc. is seeking a highly capable and results-oriented General Manager to lead and oversee all aspects of our trucking and transportation operations.
This role provides strategic and operational leadership across fleet management, safety and compliance, customer experience, financial performance, and team development. The General Manager is responsible for ensuring operational excellence while driving profitability, strengthening customer relationships, and positioning the company for sustained growth.
The ideal candidate brings proven leadership experience within the trucking, logistics, or transportation industry and demonstrates the ability to balance day-to-day execution with long-term strategic initiatives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Operations Leadership
- Provide leadership and oversight of all daily transportation and trucking operations.
- Ensure efficient scheduling, routing, dispatching, and delivery coordination across the organization.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency, service quality, and cost management.
- Maintain effective communication across drivers, dispatch, customers, and leadership.
- Ensure all services are delivered safely, accurately, and on schedule.
- Lead operational problem-solving and respond proactively to business challenges.
- Maintain full compliance of fleet operations with DOT regulations, licensing, inspections, and preventative maintenance programs.
Safety & Compliance
- Champion a strong safety culture throughout the organization.
- Ensure full compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including DOT, FMCSA, and OSHA standards.
- Oversee accurate and timely compliance reporting, including driver qualifications, logs, and inspections.
Financial & Business Management
- Develop and manage operational budgets, with accountability for financial performance and profitability.
- Analyze financial and operational metrics to identify opportunities for improved margins and efficiency.
- Partner with executive leadership on forecasting, planning, and strategic growth initiatives.
People & Culture Leadership
- Recruit, develop, and lead a high-performing team across drivers, dispatch, and operations staff.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Address employee performance, engagement, and development with a proactive leadership approach.
Customer & Growth Leadership
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with customers, vendors, and strategic partners.
- Ensure a high level of customer satisfaction through responsive service and issue resolution.
- Drive strategic business development initiatives to expand market presence and revenue.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities through relationship development, structured prospecting, and direct engagement with prospective customers.
- Represent the company externally through jobsite visits, in-person engagement, and industry networking to strengthen market positioning.
- Demonstrate leadership presence and responsiveness by engaging with customers and team members outside of standard business hours, including evenings and weekends, when needed.
- Maintain availability for in-person support, including evening and weekend site visits, particularly during natural disaster response efforts and other time-sensitive operational events.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics, Transportation Management, or a related field preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant leadership experience within the trucking, logistics, or construction industry is preferred.
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Outlook, transportation software, dispatching systems, and accounting platforms, with the ability to troubleshoot basic software issues.
- Strong knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, and OSHA regulations.
- Demonstrated experience leading fleet operations, dispatch, logistics, and transportation personnel.
- Proven leadership, organizational, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Strong financial acumen with experience managing operational performance.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in both office and field/yard environments.
- Willingness to travel as needed.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
