DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
UW Medicine Outpatient Surgery Center at Harborview is a five operating room surgical unit with supporting pre-operative, post-operative, and sterile processing departments
The UW Medicine Outpatient Surgery Center provides daytime surgical procedures to the community of patients that meet developed criteria.
ABOUT THE OUTPATIENT SURGERY CENTER AT HARBORVIEW
The Outpatient Surgery Center opening on the Harborview Campus is located on the 4th floor of Ninth and Jefferson Building (NJB) opened January 2026 to patients. The Surgery Centers feature 5 operating rooms, 12 pre/post bays, and sterile processing. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday with no holidays, weekends, or night hours. The Center offers same-day surgery procedures utilizing state-of–the-art equipment to our community of patients that meet the necessary criteria. This reflects the Center’s innovative, patient-centered culture, supporting ongoing operational efficiencies and quality improvements. The goal is to provide a seamless, low-stress surgical experience for each patient, surgeon, and staff member. The unit provides a soothing environment with natural lighting and patient privacy.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide all activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, feeding assistance, snacks, and repositioning; document care provided in patient charts.
Assist with patient mobility needs, including ambulation, transfers (to stretchers, surgical beds, wheelchairs, chairs), and escorting discharged patients to vehicles.
Take and document vital signs when delegated by RN; monitor and document intake and output.
Support patient care throughout the unit as needed and communicate effectively with RNs and other Health Assistants to ensure patient-centered care.
Clean and maintain operating rooms and patient bays to support surgical readiness and hygiene standards.
Stock and replenish medical supplies in operating rooms and pre/post-op bays.
Perform other support duties as assigned, within scope of practice.
Stock and replenish linens and patient nourishments
REQUIREMENTS
Nursing Assistant-Certified (NAC) with the State of Washington required
High school diploma or GED equivalent
Six months experience involving customer service in a health care setting OR six months experience involving direct patient care OR equivalent education/experience.
Valid American Heart Association's Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers upon hire
