HVAC Controls Programmer

About the Role
Perry Mechanical is looking for a motivated, entry-level candidate to grow into an HVAC Controls Programmer role. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate in Engineering or Computer Science to launch a career at the intersection of technology and the skilled trades.
No prior HVAC or controls experience is required. We will provide hands-on training from day one. You will begin by working alongside our installation crews in the field, gaining a ground-up understanding of our systems, projects, and customers. Over time, you will transition into our office to work directly with our Controls Manager, taking on programming and project management responsibilities.
What You'll Do
Phase 1 — Field Experience:
- Work alongside installation crews on commercial and industrial HVAC projects
- Learn how mechanical and control systems are installed, wired, and commissioned
- Develop a practical understanding of how our equipment and systems perform in the field
- Build relationships with field technicians and gain firsthand knowledge of the business
Phase 2 — Office & Controls Support:
- Assist the Controls Manager with programming building automation and DDC control systems
- Learn to develop control sequences for HVAC equipment including AHUs, chillers, boilers, and VAV systems
- Support project management tasks including scheduling, documentation, and customer coordination
- Help create and maintain as-built drawings, sequences of operations, and project records
- Participate in commissioning, system startup, and functional testing
Who We're Looking For
- Recent graduate (or upcoming graduate) with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
- Strong problem-solving skills and a genuine curiosity for how things work
- Comfortable working both in the field (physical environments, job sites) and at a desk
- Willingness to learn new software platforms and technical systems
- Good communication skills and a team-first attitude
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
Nice to Have
- Coursework or personal projects involving programming, automation, or controls
- Familiarity with building automation systems, HVAC principles, or electrical systems
- Experience with any scripting or programming language (Python, JavaScript, C, etc.)
- Internship or co-op experience in a mechanical, electrical, or construction-related field
