DESCRIPTION
POSITION SUMMARY:
Leads day-to-day outbound distribution operations (replenishment, waiving, slotting, order management, pick, pack, and ship) to ensure accurate, on-time, and cost-effective order fulfillment. This role is accountable for workforce supervision, productivity, quality, safety, and service levels while continuously optimizing processes, flow, and system utilization to meet customer and business expectations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The incumbent may be required to perform all or a combination of the following essential functions as determined by business necessity:
Operations Execution & Service Performance
- Direct and oversee all outbound activities including replenishment, waving, slotting, order management, picking, packing, staging, and shipping.
- Execute daily shipping plans/waives aligned to order priorities, carrier cutoffs, and service commitments.
- Ensure shipment accuracy and compliance with customer and carrier requirements.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as:
- Order fulfillment cycle time
- On-time shipment
- Order accuracy
- Units per labor hour (UPH)
- Drive timely resolution of shipping issues, exceptions, and customer escalations.
Labor Management & Workforce Leadership
- Plan, assign, and optimize labor to meet daily volume and productivity goals.
- Create and manage staffing schedules to align with demand fluctuations.
- Provide hands-on leadership, coaching, and performance management for associates.
- Maintain a positive work environment and address employee concerns or grievances proactively.
- Conduct performance reviews and track employee development plans.
Process Optimization & Continuous Improvement
- Identify inefficiencies and implement process improvements in waiving, replenishment, order management and pick/pack/ship workflows.
- Optimize slotting strategies and product flow to improve picking efficiency.
- Balance zones and workload distribution to reduce bottlenecks.
- Standardize work procedures and ensure adherence to best practices.
- Partner with leadership on continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, Six Sigma, etc.).
Inventory & Systems Management
- Support inventory accuracy through monitoring, inventory movement, and transaction discipline.
- Utilize Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), Warehouse Control Systems (WCS), shipping systems, and reporting tools effectively.
- Ensure accurate manifesting, trailer closing, and shipment tracking.
- Coordinate with inventory control teams to resolve discrepancies.
Carrier & Logistics Coordination
- Schedule and manage outbound loads across parcel (UPS, FedEx, USPS, couriers) and LTL/FTL carriers.
- Ensure trailers are loaded safely, sealed, and dispatched on schedule.
- Maintain compliance with transportation regulations and shipping specifications.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
- Enforce all safety policies and ensure safe use of material handling equipment.
- Conduct equipment inspections and coordinate maintenance as needed.
- Maintain compliance with company standards, OSHA regulations, and operational procedures.
- Drive a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Training & Development
- Develop and execute structured onboarding and training programs.
- Crosstrain employees across outbound functions to improve flexibility.
- Track and document training progress and certification status.
- Uphold operational standards through consistent coaching and reinforcement.
Administrative & Reporting Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate timekeeping and payroll records (e.g., UltiPro (UKG) or similar system).
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly performance reports.
- Analyze data trends to improve productivity and service levels.
- Communicate operational updates and performance results to management.

LEVEL OF SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Under direction where definite objectives are established, planed, and arranged a significant portion of own work, referring only unusual cases to supervisor or others.
EDUCATION, TRAINING and/or EXPERIENCE:
One-year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
TECHNICAL SKILLS, CERTIFICATES, and/or LICENSES:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS and/or PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level associated with this environment is usually moderate.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES (If Applicable):
Supervise a total of 16 to 40 employees in the Shipping Departments. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Pay: From $65,000.00 per year
