Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Tax Manager to lead our Tax Department, overseeing staff, managing client engagements, and ensuring the quality and accuracy of all work product. This is a senior leadership role within a firm that values autonomy, expertise, and a genuine passion for the client relationship.

What You'll Do
From quality control and staff development to client relationships and strategic tax planning.
- Oversee and manage the full tax compliance cycle for a diverse client portfolio including individuals, corporations (C & S), partnerships, trusts, and estates
- Review and sign off on complex federal, state, and local tax returns prepared by staff, ensuring accuracy and technical soundness
- Lead, mentor, and develop tax associates and senior staff — setting expectations, providing feedback, and building a culture of precision and accountability
- Manage workflow, deadlines, and capacity across the Tax Department during peak periods and year-round
- Serve as the primary point of contact for high-value and complex client engagements — building trust, managing expectations, and delivering proactive guidance
- Conduct tax research on complex issues, interpret regulatory changes, and communicate implications clearly to both clients and internal staff
- Identify and deliver tax planning opportunities that align with clients' long-term financial and legacy goals
- Review engagement letters, and ensure profitability and efficiency across client tax engagements
- Stay current on federal, state, and international tax law changes and translate updates into actionable guidance for the team and clients
- Collaborate with the Partner on firm growth initiatives, client acquisition, and team development
- Establish and refine internal processes and workflows to improve consistency, quality, and turnaround time across the department
Experience:
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in tax
- Proven experience managing and reviewing complex tax returns across entity types (individual, corporate, partnership, trust)
- Strong leadership and staff management skills — you've developed people, not just reviewed their work
- Excellent client communication skills — you can translate complex tax matters into clear, confident guidance
- High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple engagements and deadlines simultaneously
- CPA license preferred; Enrolled Agent (EA) designation also considered
- Master's Degree in Accounting or Taxation strongly preferred
