Sourcewise, Area Agency on Aging, is seeking to hire Director of Finance who is responsible for managing the financial activities of the organization, including financial analysis and planning, accounting operations, accounts payable, payroll, reporting, budgeting, and external audits. The individual hired for this position must have ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, strong work ethic, attention to detail, and demonstrated knowledge of technical and operational accounting and finance.
Position Summary: The Director of Finance is responsible for managing the financial activities of the organization, establishing or improving the organization's financial policies and procedures, ensuring legal or regulatory compliance is adhere to State and Federal regulations, collaborates with upper management and colleagues to ensure sound business strategy, prepare reports for the Board of Directors, interface with external parties, including invoicing, program and funder reporting and state and tax registration and reporting.
Duties/Responsibilities but not limited to:
- Manage and oversee the fiscal operations for the organization.
- Responsible for the daily operation of the Finance Department to ensure all financial aspects are conducted properly.
- Lead all planning, developing, and implementing effective accounting strategies, policies, and procedures.
- Ensure accounting policies are consistent with established accounting processes and procedures.
- Manage the development and implementation of financial information and control systems, including general ledger, budgeting, and cost allocation.
- Ensure that all financial transactions are processed accurately, in a timely manner, and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
- Develop, implement, and maintain processes and controls that are current best practices related to transactions processing.
- Manage monthly and year end close, including accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, depreciation, reconciliations, and bank reconciliations.
- Ensure proper coding of program expenses and revenue.
- Determine revenue recognition and record adjustments as appropriate.
- Prepare and analyze weekly, monthly, quarterly, yearly financial assessments and generate reports financial statements (including income statement, balance sheet, budget vs actual, cash flows, and forecast.)
- Collaborate with senior management and colleagues in the preparation of funder program budgets.
- Administer and review all department financial budgets, monitor progress and changes, and keep upper management abreast of the organization's financial status.
- Provide support in preparing budgets for grants proposal.
- Develop and monitor budgets for government and non-government contracts and grants.
- Prepare monthly financial statements for the Board of Directors. Issue timely, accurate, and complete financial statements to the Board of Directors.
- Attend monthly Board of Directors meeting to present organization financials to the Board of Directors.
- Coordinate the preparation of the draft audited financial statements and all tax returns with external auditors.
- Act as an audit coordinator for audit including government, non-government, and annual organization audit.
- Management of government fiscal reporting and compliance.
- Maintain fiscal compliance with all government and private funding sources as well as local, state, and federal.
- Act as a liaison between the California Department of Aging and Sourcewise for all fiscal matters.
- Provide financial insight into strategic decisions-making throughout the organization.
- Perform related work as required by upper management.
- Analyzes financial risk and benefits of new initiatives.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge and understanding of non-profit accounting and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Strong organizational, problem solving and analytical skills, with attention to details & accuracy.
- Ability to translate financial concepts to support and collaborate with programmatic colleagues without finance backgrounds.
- Knowledge of and ability to apply 2 CFR 200 Uniform Guidance regulations to specific grants. Familiarity with direct, cost allocation, and indirect costs.
- Be able to work cross-functionally & independently, with minimal supervision and be responsive to needs of the business.
- Committed to continuous improvement of effectiveness and quality of financial information.
- Good time-management skills & ability to prioritize, multi-task, meet deadlines, and drive projects to completion in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to mentor and develop professional skills of team members.
- Knowledge in Older American Acts programs service, regulations, and policies.
- Ability to read, interpret and respond to Federal and State regulations.
- Knowledge and experience serving the elderly/aging and disabled adult population.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Proficient in computer skills.
- Knowledge of SAGE 100 accounting system and ADP payroll system.
- Ability to exercise good judgement and focus on detail as required by the position.
- Valid USA driving license with at least two to three years of driving experience.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting or related field a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.
- Financial leadership and supervisory roles with at least three years of experience managing the finances of non-profit organization with a mix of funding sources.
- Experience with State and Federal government contracts and single audit is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift 5 to 10 pounds.
