Full Job Description

SSubstance Use Disorder (SUD) Counselor Position Overview

The SUD Counselor provides direct client services under the supervision of the Clinical Supervisor and Clinical Director. Counselors deliver individual and group therapy, conduct assessments, and guide clients in building recovery skills, mindfulness practices, and emotional regulation strategies.

This role is ideal for compassionate professionals who value whole-person care, professional growth, and working within a collaborative, supportive team.

Primary Responsibilities

Conduct intakes, assessments, and biopsychosocial evaluations using ASAM criteria.
Develop and maintain individualized treatment plans aligned with client goals.
Facilitate individual and group counseling sessions utilizing evidence-based and holistic techniques.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation (progress notes, treatment plans, discharges) in ICANotes.
Coordinate care with community partners, referral sources, and supervising agencies.
Participate in weekly supervision and ongoing professional development.
Assist clients in relapse prevention, mindfulness, and emotional regulation.
Contribute to team meetings, case reviews, and program evaluation.
Working knowledge of compliance with COMAR, CARF, ACHC, COA and Joint Commission standards a plus.

Qualifications

Active Maryland Board of Professional Counselors and Therapist certification or license (LCADC, CAC-AD, CSC-AD ).
1–2 years of experience in behavioral health or substance use disorder treatment.
Knowledge of ASAM criteria and evidence-based approaches.
Proficiency in EHR systems (ICANotes experience preferred).
Strong communication and documentation skills.
Commitment to MHI’s holistic, client-centered model of care.

Compensation & Details

Compensation: $25 to 42 an hour (based on experience, credentials and caseload)
Schedule: Contractual Hybrid - Office days required
