Experienced Automotive Technician (Flat Rate)

Location: 5421 Brook Rd, Richmond, VA 23227 Pay: $30.00 - $60.00 per hour (flat rate)
Job Type: Full-time Start Date: Immediately

The Short Version

Hilliard Automotive needs an experienced technician who can step into a bay and start producing. We don't care what letter is on your resume. If you can diagnose problems, turn quality work, and keep cars moving, we want to talk to you.

We're also offering up to a $5,000 sign-on bonus for qualified candidates who are ready to start now.

About the Shop

Hilliard Automotive has been serving Richmond since 2001. We're an ASE-certified independent shop with over two decades of repeat customers who trust us with everything from routine maintenance to major repairs. That means steady car count and full bays, which is the only thing that matters when you're on flat rate.

We run a Monday through Friday schedule, 7:30am to 5:30pm. No weekends. We treat our techs like professionals, not headcount.

Why Flat Rate Works Here

Flat rate rewards the techs who actually produce. Every job carries a book time. You get paid that time whether it takes you the full hours or half. The better and faster you work, the more you earn. Your ceiling is set by your skill, not a manager's budget.

But flat rate only works when the shop keeps your bays full. We do. We've built a high-volume workflow over 20+ years. We even provide Uber rides home for customers doing drop-offs, which means more cars in your bay instead of sitting in the lot.

What You'll Be Doing

Diagnosing and repairing vehicles across the major systems: engine, brakes, suspension, A/C, electrical, and drivetrain. You'll work on both domestic and foreign vehicles and use modern diagnostic scanning equipment. You'll communicate with the front desk team to keep jobs moving and customers informed.

The scope of work you handle will match your experience. If you're a B-tech growing into heavier diagnostics, we'll keep you challenged. If you're a C-tech who's solid on bread-and-butter work and ready to take on more, there's room to move up. If you're an A-tech looking for a better shop, even better.

What We're Looking For

Hands-on experience repairing vehicles across multiple systems. Not just oil changes and tires.
Comfortable with diagnostic scanning tools and standard shop equipment.
Someone who can work independently and doesn't need to be walked through every job.
Pride in doing the job right the first time. On flat rate, comebacks cost you money.
ASE certification is a plus, but production and quality matter more than a wall of certificates.
Available to start immediately or very soon.
