Staff Accountant (Full Time)
Job Summary:
Working under the direct supervision of the Accounting Supervisor and Controller, the Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records across Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, Fixed Assets, and Student Funds. You will assist in processing invoices, compiling payroll details, managing purchase orders, and supporting general accounting functions, including month-end closing and year-end audit preparation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accounts Payable & Receivable: Process vendor invoices and employee check runs accurately and timely; issue and maintain vendor Purchase Orders; assist with client billing and resolve vendor inquiries.
- Payroll & Benefits: Process and input employee timesheets and benefits details accurately.
- Student Fund Management: Maintain and reconcile Student Personal Needs and Clothing Accounts, keeping diligent records of all deposits and disbursements.
- General Ledger & Month-End: Record journal entries and reconcile subsidiary ledgers to the General Ledger for month-end close.
- Audit Support: Complete assigned tasks and prepare documentation for the annual year-end audit.
- Compliance & Professionalism: Maintain strict confidentiality regarding student, employee, vendor accounts, and all proprietary agency information.
- Perform other general business office duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Education: Associate's or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration.
- Experience: 0 to 2 years of experience in the accounting field (Great opportunity for recent grads or early-career professionals!).
- Software Skills: Proficiency with Windows, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word), and familiarity with accounting software packages (experience with Blackbaud is a strong plus).
- Industry Knowledge: Basic understanding of commonly used accounting concepts, practices, and procedures, ideally within the non-profit sector.
- Core Competencies: Ability to function in an appropriate, professional manner within a specialized school environment, adapt to agency policies/procedures, and approach the workplace with empathy for our student population.
