Position: The Speech-Language Provider provides services to students, staff, and families that improve and develop the use of speech and language for eligible students with disabilities.

Reports to: Superintendent/Building Principals
Summary: Under the general direction of the Superintendent/Special Education Supervisor, the Speech-Language Provider evaluates, diagnoses, and treats communication disorders that affect academic success. Core responsibilities include conducting comprehensive evaluations, providing targeted therapeutic interventions, and collaborating closely with school teams to implement and achieve individualized student goals. While maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information regarding students and staff, keep and sustain legal special education records and files on IEPs and specialized programs, and services.
Qualifications: Master’s degree required in speech-language pathology or a valid Michigan teacher’s certificate with full approval in the speech and language impaired required. A valid Speech-Language Pathologist license from the State of Michigan. Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) is recommended. Clinical fellows with Educational Limited Speech-Language Pathologist license from the State of Michigan will be considered, on-site clinical fellowship supervision will be made available. Previous experience with students with disabilities and augmentative communication systems and devices preferred.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Evaluations & Testing: Administering diagnostic tests to determine if a student has an impairment in articulation, language, fluency, voice, or swallowing that requires special education services
- IEP & MET Participation: Collaborating on Multidisciplinary Evaluation Teams (MET) and writing Individualized Education Programs (IEP). Providers write custom goals, objectives, and report on progress
- Therapy Delivery: Providing targeted therapy to students individually or in small groups to improve speech sounds, vocabulary, sentence structure, social communication, and cognitive skills
- Consultation: Consulting with general education teachers on Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and providing strategies to support student language and communication across the curriculum
- Paperwork Management: Tracking data, handling medical/educational paperwork, managing caseloads, and scheduling
