Martin Downs Golf Club, a historic championship golf destination in Palm City, FL, is seeking an experienced Pro Shop Manager with strong accounting and retail management skills. This role oversees the daily operations of the Pro Shop, drives merchandise sales and revenue, ensures exceptional customer service for members and guests, and maintains accurate financial records for golf shop transactions.
The ideal candidate is a golf enthusiast with retail leadership experience, proficiency in inventory management, and solid accounting knowledge to handle daily deposits, sales reporting, and financial reconciliation. This position reports to the General Manager or Head Golf Professional and plays a key role in supporting the club’s operations on our scenic courses.
Key ResponsibilitiesOperations & Customer Service
- Manage day-to-day Pro Shop operations, including opening and closing procedures.
- Provide exceptional customer service: greet members and guests, process tee times, merchandise sales, club rentals, and other services.
- Coordinate with golf staff on tee sheet management, tournaments, events, and member services.
- Supervise, train, schedule, and lead Pro Shop staff (cashiers, attendants, etc.) to maximize sales and efficiency.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and visually appealing Pro Shop environment with effective merchandising and product displays.
Merchandising & Inventory
- Oversee purchasing, receiving, pricing, and display of golf merchandise (apparel, equipment, accessories).
- Conduct regular physical inventory counts, manage stock levels, and control shrinkage.
- Build and maintain vendor relationships; negotiate terms to achieve favorable margins.
- Analyze sales trends and implement promotional strategies to drive revenue from retail, green fees, memberships, and packages.
Financial & Accounting Responsibilities
- Handle all cash, credit, and electronic transactions with accuracy and integrity.
- Prepare daily sales reports, reconcile registers, and make bank deposits.
- Enter daily transactions into accounting systems (e.g., QuickBooks or club-specific POS software).
- Generate monthly financial reports, including sales performance, inventory valuation, and profitability analysis.
- Assist with budgeting, cost control, and meeting merchandise sales and margin targets.
- Ensure compliance with club policies and financial controls.
Additional Duties
- Support club events, tournaments, and membership initiatives.
- Collaborate with the Head Golf Professional on golf operations and overall guest experience.
- Monitor golf shop performance metrics and recommend improvements.
- Handle other administrative tasks as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: 2–5+ years in Pro Shop or retail management, preferably in a golf club or hospitality setting. Prior golf industry knowledge is strongly preferred.
- Accounting/Financial Skills: Proven experience with daily cash handling, deposits, sales reconciliation, inventory accounting, and financial reporting. Proficiency in QuickBooks, POS systems, Excel, and general ledger processes is required.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Retail Management, or Hospitality preferred.
