Starting Pay: $60,000 annually (*based on city, state and/ or federal contractual obligations and budgetary allowances)

POSITION SUMMARY: The Training Specialist, within Fatherhood Matters team will be under the direct supervision of the Program Director and Director of Community Initiatives. The Training Specialist will provide professional support and training such as, but not limited to; parenting skills training, problem-solving skills, life skills, peer support and self-advocacy in a safe, caring, and enriching environment. The Training Specialist will lead and facilitate workshops, peer support group settings, family events and other program related activities. In addition, the Training Specialist is responsible for periodically selecting and coordinating guest speakers. Daily the Training Specialist will be responsible for content development as well as the coordination and scheduling sessions, including calendar management. Administrative tasks associated with this role include maintenance of attendance, and ensuring the completion of participant deliverables as required by DYCD. The Training Specialist is responsible for complying with all UAU and DYCD policies and standards.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to):

Assist with the development of content and curriculum development, revision, and implementation to engage participants.
Facilitate workshops and support groups related to; parenting skills and training, peer support, relationships (family, community etc)
Provide academic support and/or tutoring resources, or education opportunities.
Employ teaching strategies that will advance participants’ conceptual and practical knowledge, and connect learning to the pursuit and achievement of participants’ goals
Plan participant learning and training outcomes based on long- and short-term goals, and program objectives
Ensure the development and completion of DYCD-required deliverables documents are incorporated to participants’ training time, providing individualized and group support, as needed
Ensure all DYCD-required deliverables documents meet established guidelines and are submitted to the Program Director for final review and submission within the established timeline
Effectively engage Family Development Coach, Program Director, and Peer Mentor in training implementation, including the coordination of featured content and/or targeted discussion
Maintain regular communication with Family Development Coach, Program Director to share participants’ progress and support participants' efforts towards achieving their short- and long-term goals
Monitor and assess participant attendance and performance
Contribute to monthly case notes for each participant, per DYCD standards
Support program recruitment and retention efforts, especially through regular correspondence with and sharing of opportunities to training alumni/follow-up participants
As necessary, attend case reviews and other necessary inter-office meetings to ensure that all participants meet their milestones
Attend a weekly supervision session with Program Director
Develop and maintain strong working relationships with staff, participants, and community partners
Advise and coach participants to ensure success through advocacy, support, and guidance
Participate in additional meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities, as directed
Perform other related duties as necessary or assigned

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Education Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in human services, Public Health, Non-Profit, or Psychology & Sociology or related field; or at least two years of experience within the last five years in facilitating parenting skills and support groups for low-income adults.
Minimum of one year of experience working with population of adults, preferred.
Minimum of two plus of non-profit professional experience, preferred.
Bilingual (Spanish) REQUIRED
Must be able to work flexible hours, including weekends.
Must be culturally competent - ability to understand, be sensitive to the needs of, communicate with and effectively interact with people across cultures, at risk youth and a variety of age ranges
Must pass reference checks and background as designated by DOH, DYCD and UAU
Proficient writing and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in basic computer usage, i.e., Windows, Microsoft Suite, Google Apps (Drive, Sheets, Docs) etc.
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Demonstrated ability to conduct and complete work independently
Willing to take initiative and be flexible when needed

While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally required to stand; sit or walk. Specific vision and hearing abilities are required by this job as outlined below.

Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need.
Standard office equipment including computers, fax machines, copiers, printers, telephones, etc.
Position is in a well-lighted office environment.
Involves sitting approximately 80% of the day, walking or standing the remainder.
Travel is required to a variety of locations, based on programming needs. Which is reimbursed in accordance with UAU’s fiscal policies and procedures. Reliable mode of transportation required.
May include working prolonged periods of time sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
The ability to observe details at close range (within a few feet or more of the observer).
