Full Job Description

Overview

What You’ll Do:

This is a dynamic, hands-on role blending both clinical care and administrative support, perfect for someone who enjoys variety, learning, and connection.

Patient Care

Welcome and room patients while creating a calm, child-friendly experience
Obtain thorough histories and update vaccines, medications, and allergies in the EMR
Perform vital signs and growth measurements
Conduct point-of-care testing including but not limited to: Rapid flu, strep, glucose testing, throat cultures, hemoccult specimens
Administer: Immunizations, nebulizer treatments, PO/IM medications, Ear irrigation, EKGs, spirometry, capillary blood draws
Assist providers with in-office procedures such as: Suture placement/removal, foreign body removal, Incision and drainage, pelvic exams, ear piercing, etc

Supplies & Vaccines

Keep exam rooms and nursing stations clean, organized, and fully stocked
Support compliance with Vaccines for Children (VFC) program standards
Maintain vaccine storage, handling, emergency transport, and backup protocols
Collaborate with the team to ensure ongoing regulatory compliance

Documentation

Ensure accurate, timely, and complete documentation in the medical record
Maintain logs, reports, inventory, and forms while upholding HIPAA standards
Maintain compliance with DOH reporting guidelines and practices

Telephone Triage

Respond to parent calls using approved clinical protocols
Assess urgency, provide guidance, and coordinate care with providers
Help families feel heard, supported, and confident in next steps

Labs, Vaccines & Pharmacy Coordination

Review lab results with providers and communicate findings to families
Ensure abnormal results are flagged and followed up appropriately
Scan lab results into the EMR and coordinate pharmacy prescriptions
Assist with referrals, school and medical forms, vaccine cards

Education & Advocacy

Provide clear, compassionate education to children and caregivers
Review Vaccine Information Statements (VIS) with every caregiver
Empower families with knowledge to promote understanding, adherence, and confidence
Recognize changes in a child’s condition and respond appropriately in urgent or emergency situations

Qualifications

Certified Clinical Medical Assistant credential required
Proven experience in outpatient clinics, hospital settings
Knowledge of medical terminology, ICD coding, anatomy, physiology, and medication administration
Familiarity with EHR systems and microsoft office programs
Strong patient service skills with the ability to communicate effectively and compassionately
Basic life support (BLS) certification required
Spanish or Creole speaking is a plus
Ability to work collaboratively and efficiently in fast-paced setting
Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail in documentation and patient care processes
