Overview
Join our innovative team as a Software Engineer specializing in Edge Sensing and Detection Systems! In this dynamic role, you will develop cutting-edge software solutions that enhance sensor accuracy, improve detection capabilities, and optimize edge computing environments. Your work will directly contribute to creating intelligent systems capable of real-time sensing and decision-making at the edge of networks. We are looking for passionate engineers eager to push the boundaries of technology and make a tangible impact through advanced sensing applications.

Team Context

You will join Insu Health Design, a streamlined, fast-moving engineering team that has been in the Research and Development industry supporting private and federal projects. The company will provide hands-on work in a lab environment.

About the Project

We are building a wall-mounted sensing and alerting prototype. The MVP workflow is trigger -> scan -> local/edge processing -> operator UI -> encrypted alert. The work is multidisciplinary and prototype-heavy: hardware bring-up, real sensor data, and iterative tuning matter more than perfect theory.

Responsibilities

· Build the end-to-end software workflow: trigger + scan orchestration; data acquisition (streaming/buffering/synchronization); processing/inference; alert logic; and robust logging.

· Develop baseline detection/localization/anomaly mapping on real sensor data; implement thresholding and false-positive reduction within a defined demo envelope.

· Build an operator-facing UI (workstation/web app acceptable for MVP): standby/scan/alert/fault states, event history, and diagnostics.

· Implement secure alerting and basic security hygiene (encrypted payloads, authentication, sensible key handling).

· Support BOM confirmation/procurement (compute requirements, SDK constraints, integration risks) and collaborate closely with EEs/MEs during integration testing.

· Create replay tooling/test harnesses so the team can reproduce issues and iterate quickly.

Required Skills and Experience

· Strong Python and/or C++ skills and comfort working in Linux.

· Experience integrating vendor SDKs/APIs and building software that interfaces with real sensors/hardware (not purely web/app).

· Debugging and profiling skills; ability to reason about timing/synchronization issues and data quality.

· Clear documentation and collaborative communication.

Nice to Have

· Experience with mmWave/radar sensing (any platform) or signal processing (FFT/filtering/detection).

· Edge compute experience (mini PC, SBC, Jetson-class devices).

· UI experience (React/Electron/Qt or similar).

· Security-minded engineering (basic threat modeling, secure messaging).

Pay: $25.00 - $50.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 20 per week
