A Place At Home

My experience at this organization was defined by a persistent gap between what leadership says and what actually occurs in practice. Although values like openness, communication, and a healthy culture are emphasized in interviews, the reality is controlling, disorganized, and quite toxic. Expectations shift frequently without clear direction, and training is minimal, leaving employees unprepared and set up to struggle. The environment is tense and emotionally draining, where questions feel discouraged and feedback is PRIMARILY CRITICAL and regular, with little encouragement. Employees’ time and personal needs are mostly disregarded, even in important health situations. Leadership expects accountability but DOES NOT MODEL it, creating a clear double standard that erodes trust. Turnover remains high and morale continues to decline--verbalized by staff regularly. This is not a people problem but a owner/leadership issue, requiring accountability, consistency, and genuine support to build a sustainable and respectful workplace environment.

A typical day with this company is good if you are a professional caregiver and show up on time for your client and stay till the end of shift.   But if you do not stay for your shift, nobody contacts you about it.  You can show up late and you can leave whenever.  The hardest part about this job is the company doesn't appreciate us.  We are not paid on time or sometime for weeks. We are told excuse after excuse about our pay.   The VA pays our company to pay us and I see the pay stubs and the client show us. But we are not being paid on time off and on since September 2023.  We work with Veterans and no one checks on them.  No one does home visits to check on the clients.   Many of the caregivers are getting away with whatever they want to do.  I hear stories about bad caregivers and unprofessional caregivers from our clients. 
This company does not respect its veterans and does not respected their employees.   There are no reviews for caregivers or help for our personal and professional growth.  Lots of benefits were promised and almost none of them came true.   There is no HR person or payroll person.  


Overall enjoy working for this company. Your hours switch a lot. There is no set pay scale, with raises pretty much not happening. Your pay has to do with what client you are pretty much placed with. If you are able to put up with a client that is hard to staff they will pay more. If you just started years ago someone can get paid the same as you starting their first day, without any sort of certification or experience. The turn of rate is high as well. If you are licensed be careful what is ask of you, as much of what is asked would be NEVER be okay in a Hospital/ Nursing Home. (Ex: lift equipment) The clients are what truly set them apart. They have some of the best clients, but promise them too much. Cleaning, bathing & medication passing is what is typically what you are asked to do. There are many things they could improve on once they took over 2 offices. Also, picking up hours between offices do not result in overtime being paid. They don’t tell you this until you realize you’re not getting paid overtime.  

A typical day at work is routinely particular per client. Light house work, meal prep, showers, toileting, companionship, transportation and running errands with multiple client locations per client. Learned I became a doormat and that I was not advancing in my career. Management needs to improve their scheduling tactics so employees and clients can be matched properly and accordingly to maintain stability. Workplace culture was during Christmas. The hardest part of the job was trying to keep a steady income and not making enough for the cost of living and not experiencing teamwork because the employees never met each other to utilize teamwork. The most enjoyable part of the job: the greatful and awesome clients.








After only a few days of interaction with clients they already appeared to know all they needed and weren't willing to work with me to help me improve. I was only there less than 2 weeks with minimal hands on training before they wrote me off. They had either gotten rid of and/or lost most their entire office teams before I arrived and proceeded to give me barely a chance before making a snap judgment it wasn't working. They knew how to tell me what I was doing wrong but did not work with me to help improve or think it was worth their time to give me a chance to get better. They believe confidence on the phone isn't something you can teach and should be expected right off the bat. They expect near perfection or the ability to fake being confident right off with no willingness to accommodate for being nervous the first few times on your own.

There's not only 1 thing that I can pick.
My Employer is the Greatest, he's very Understanding and will do whatever he can to assist U as a employee. He will also do the utmost, to find the perfect ,hours and situation for U and Ur Client

I've not had any stress from Working there.

I arrive at My Clients on time .

Socialize with My Client , while caring for My Client and there Home 
I make sure all the Clients needs are met.
 At the end of My shift ,I clock out .

A typical day with A Place at Home is structured and supportive with a great deal of autonomy.  I learned the value of listening to patients and developing soft skills.  Management is very supportive and attentive to the needs of staff.  The hardest part of the job is the travel time during the cold winter months where harsh road conditions can be a barrier.  The job required a great deal of travel between clients place of residency.  The most enjoyable part of the job was the sense of accomplishment at the end of each day in helping others to accomplish their daily goals.

I was introduced to A Place at Home by a friend who worked for them. I have had friends in the past that have referred me to work where they work, and I never felt the magic they did about the company. This time is different. From the time I started, A Place at Home has been amazing. They have worked with my schedule, provided me many opportunities to grown and learn new parts of the business, and are always there to listen/provide solutions when I have had an issue or question. The support that I feel at A Place at Home truly makes it feel like a family. The management and Owners have cultivated an environment where you really feel like you are part of a tight team. I love working for APH.

As part of my role, I review applications, conduct interviews, and process onboarding documents for new Caregivers on a daily basis. I also update job listings to meet the needs of both existing and potential clients. Additionally, I conduct performance reviews with employees and check in with caregivers regularly to ensure that they are performing well with their shifts and clients. One of the best parts of my job is being able to meet our caregivers and clients in person and get to know them on a personal level. I am constantly learning new skills, but I have the support I need to handle any challenges that arise. Overall, I find my work environment to be excellent.

He will hire you quickly, no information will be giving and 
They put you in bad situations in their houses and they know their c caregivers don't do their jobs and they do nothing about it.

They give you no information and then the families be mean to you and he will tell you their business to make excuses.
