Base pay is $9 an hour for a position where you are the most responsible for customer satisfaction and product condition. Don't expect to make any more than that with yearly pay raises which cap out at 20 cents for hourly pay. There is stop pay which is nice but that starts out at $1 and it is split between you and your passenger for the first year or so I was told. My first raise was a whopping 12 cents to hourly and 20 cents to my stop pay which doesn't amount to much since you're basically selling them your back. Daily duties start by staging all the product which is being delivered for the morning run with a delivery window between 10am-3pm but some days you'll pull up to the store and the accounts department will have loaded both trucks to go as soon as you clock in because it's a busy day... or some days the GM will have you do little things here and there for an hour or two on the showroom floor and then have you stage everything which turns out to be a busy day so you have to work through your lunch break. On a typical day when you return to the store after the morning run the GM lets you go to lunch if it's not past 3 and then you come back and run the evening route which is more of the same. Your first week of work will be spent in front of a computer screen taking tests and watching video's which in no way reflect how a practical day will go but I'm sure in some ideal world they might serve a purpose. I know it varies from store to store but the PT's were never allowed to touch the paperwork for what was going out unless the GM was busy and we needed to move things to the staging area. Most of the time the GM points at what needs to go and then you load it up in whatever order onto the trucks before he makes the route so you're stuck digging around and un-burying everything at every stop. You are at the mercy of what your GM considers a one man stop or not... washers and dryers were always considered one man stops to my GM no matter if it was a 3rd floor delivery at an apartment complex or up some old wooden steps into a trailer. Our GM didn't keep up with our tools or equipment and ignored our pleas... we had no working appliance dollies at our store so as I was mentioning before about 3rd floor deliveries we were doing that with standard dollies.

Co-workers were great... they came and went pretty regularly but it was nice to just complain with each other about how horrible the job was and crack jokes about it. The worst part of course is teaching them how to lift properly so they are on the same page as you. One of the worst experiences with this job is dealing with the heavier items on a regular basis. The W29s are notoriously heavy and anyone reading this review will smile if they've had any experience with them because they can relate. The sales department will gladly sell anyone our most expensive and heaviest stuff only for it to be returned because they can't afford it when the first bill comes up... combine that with the specials that corporate does like "1 penny down" and you end up returning items more often than you are delivering them which makes things get crowded in the small backrooms in all the stores. Thursday is truck day in the area I worked so most of that day was spent sorting out the backroom as best as we could to make room for all the new items and the evening route and Friday was always busy getting those items out to the people that had them ordered. 

The people that you deliver to vary from all walks of life. The richer ones are watching you with a magnifying glass looking for anything to complain about... leave a small scuff mark trying to fit a couch through the door and they will complain and ask for a new one... thread is kind of pulled out on a mattress... they want a new one. We usually had to get the GM on the phone with them and he would just cut the price down slightly and they were happy doing it that way but they were non-issues as the scuff mark came off by rubbing it and there wasn't much to do about a loose thread in the mattress. One of the bitter aspects is that people never really tip for all the effort we put forth... I can't fault anyone for that but the general conception was that we were making tons of money when we weren't. People offered up tons of coke and water which was greatly appreciated though. The better experiences were with those that rely on Aarons or similar Rent to own businesses to get by... they are the kind of people that treat you like a person and not a temporary servant. That feeling dies fast when there's a slow day and the GM makes you do field visits and the same people that were smiling at you when you delivered to them are now frowning and making remarks about how often the place is calling them or knocking on their door telling you they are going to sue you for harassment.

I'm a CSR and I do a little bit of everything! I take accounts calls when the accts dept. isn't there, I set up service calls, I give the best service I can provide and I'm always looking out for my store... I've been with the company for almost 3 years and not to toot my horn but ok beep beep, I'm a great seller.... Always count on me to close the deal so tell me why my GM and my RG didn't give me a promotion for Sales Manager when I clearly have the skills? Oh yes cuz I don't have a degree!!! I personally don't think you can go to school to learn how to sell you're either born with it or you're not! Either way I tried to transfer to a different store bc the one I'm at didn't have an opening for SM and the GM at the other store offered it so I went for it but my GM wasn't happy with that so they decided to keep me where I'm at.They promote from within the company is what they say but it's all LIES!!!! They'll be quick to hire someone who has no clue about the business and pass up the people who work hard every day!! My GM is lazy and if he had a girl SM he'd have to help out with moving furniture etc... so that's why I didn't even get offered the position here and they hired a person who doesn't know how to do the job and is constantly asking me for what to do. Nedless to say I'm the only spanish speaking person at my store how ridiculous is that??? I'm sorry but setting up service calls isn't my job.... but of course I get stuck in the middle of translating, oh and lets not forget when the accts ppl need to collect money from a spanish speaking customer here they call me to once again translate! I didn't know I got hired to be a translator! on top of that I didn't start off making more money bc I'm bilingual.... The accts dept has 3 people who speak nothing but english, Product techs (3) English as well other CSR and my SM? NO SPANISH!! they go crazy when I'm off on Thursdays I seriously don't know how they do it.... on top of everything my GM treats everyone like we're mentally ill!! Like I understand that you're above all of us but what gives you the right to treat everyone like they're less than you? Oh and lets not forget the stinginess..... I love this company bc hourly pay may not be the best but commission is sweet and oh the contests! There's always a contest going on and top sales person usually wins a gift card, does my store see them? Not till a few months after we've won, my GM is always complaining about how he has to come out of pocket to buy the GCs and they take forever to reinburse him. Pathetic huh? I think so, for a person that gets paid very very good!! what else? 2years ago for December the regionals sent out an email that since we don't have a christmas party anymore that the GMs could throw a little lunch together and to spend about $15 for each person, any guesses? You guessed right we didn't get anything!! it's really very ridiculous that the following year my CAM actually got us food and threw a little something together bc my GM didn't want to spend any of his money and wait till forever to get his cash back.... I love this company I guess the only thing I would change would be my GM, and don't get me wrong he's ok at times and I appreciate how he worked with me as far as getting a good schedule for me (9-6) but with that attitude it's like there's only so much a person can take and I think I'm about ready to call it quits!

Typical Day: As a  Customer Accounts Manager, I lead the customer accounts department.  I supervise the Manager Trainee.  I assist with the collection of payments.  Each day I call between 80 and 300 customers to obtain their monthly payments. I am instructed to call their home, cell and work numbers.  If I am unable to reach the customer directly, then I must call the family members and friends that the customer listed as references.  This process takes at least 4 hours and sometimes as long as 6 hours.

Between customer calls I also must take the payments of customers that call or come into the store if the Manager Trainee or Customer Service Representative is busy.

After making all calls, I make two client visit route sheets - one for me and one for the Manager Trainee.  I drive the company truck or my car to the houses of the customers that have not paid their monthly payments. I attempt to collect the payment at the door or I ask for a post dated check or post dated credit card authorization that the store will hold until the agreed upon date.  I usually visit between 15 and 30 customers each day.  My day usually begins at 9am and ends at 8 pm.  On Saturday I begin at 8am and end at 6pm.  I work 45 hours per week.

Management: Lower level management - General Manager (store manager) and Regional Managers (oversees 8-20 stores) - generally lack creativity, vision and true leadership.  The three regional managers that I have met are particularly unimpressive.  They are clueless as to how the stores function when they are absent.  

The Divisional Vice-President (oversees 100's of stores/multiple regions) seems like an extremely intelligent man and was impressive when I met him. He was driven and focused. My only knock is that he hired the uninspired regional managers.  They are more hall monitors than leaders.

Co-workers:  There are a couple of slackers, but generally the employees I work with are hardworking and honest.  The general sentiment seems to be that the workplace is acceptable and even enjoyable at times but the compensation leaves much to be desired.  The pay for each position at starting is:

Product Tech./Delivery Driver: $8.50-10.00
Customer Service Representatives $9.00-$10.00
Manager Trainee:$9.50- $11.00
Customer Accounts Manager $10.00-$12.00
Sales Manager $10.00-$12.00

Each of these positions can earn "bonuses" but they are so small as not to be worth describing.  Raises are granted yearly.  I do not know the max amount that may be granted each year but the raises given in my current store ranged from 10 cents per hour to 25 cents per hour.  

General Managers (store managers) are paid on a draw system.  They receive a monthly pay but that amount is reconciled against store performance at the end of the year.  Depending on the store volume, General managers earn between $50,000 and $80,000.  I do not know how Regional Managers are compensated.

Hardest Part of Job: We often are required to repeatedly lift items that weigh between 50 and 150 lbs.  Customers are often rude.  Management direction is often lacking or muddled.

Most enjoyable part of job: Interacting with co-workers

This company was terrible to work for. Extremely long hours, usually 8am-9pm Monday-Friday and 7:30am-6:30pm on Saturdays. Once you become manager of a store you do not get days off and god forbid you try to schedule yourself for one, your manager will call to your store and tell you how bad of a job your doing and you do not deserve a day off. Telling you, you can take the day off but it won't be in your best interest. Extremely stressful environment with goals that are unachievable. Upper management always will find someone else to blame and constantly threaten your job. They have no compassion for you or your family. All they want from you is to work, work, work. Upper management will roll over if you get a customer complaint but if you handle the situation without it getting to them and do the same thing they would do they will wig out on you and write you up. They make you work late on holidays and will "recommend" you going in on Sundays. You will have no life if you work for this place. They make it seem like you can make good money here but with the amount of hours they make you work it comes out to you making about minimum wage and you get paid salary so they really screw you over. You have to deal with some of the nastiest, low life customers ever. They feel entitled to everything and their houses are covered in roaches and trash. Collections are harrassment, they will make you call 6, 7 times a day, call all of their relatives and embaress them by telling all of the customers business and even threaten them with legal matters. If they are one day late you have to go to their house, job, relatives houses, etc. When you finally do get them to return their merchandise it comes back disgusting with stains, tears, smells, and roach infested and then they will expect you to clean it but it is so gross most people will not clean it and just spray it with febreeze and re sell it. By their cleaning policies being "over looked" they infest new customers with roaches and bed bugs. Half of the "new" merchandise never works from TV's to computers. They come straight out of the box yet they are covered in scratches, dents, cracks and they are supposed to be "new." They say they will match any competitors price but it is impossible because it has to be the same make and model, which they have contracts with other retailers to change one letter on their make and model so it cannot be matched and that is how they justify charging customers 3 times what the product is worth. And if something gets broken aaron's will cover it under there "service" but their service providers are all shady and do not know how to fix anything they are just random people and you continue to have to go back and fix customers merchandise until they complain enought to upper management and they give in and give the customer somethingn new. This is a terrible company.

Almost 10 years with this company.  Pay is OK for General Managers.  The time away from family and the overall culture and business is horrible.  I wish this life on no one.  When the most enjoyable part of a job becomes Repossessing a 3 year old TV worth $50 because a customer missed a payment and won't answer a phone is not a way to live.  Hours for GM's is from 8:30 AM - 9:30 PM on average.  Some days are longer.  Stated days off are not real.  You are expected to be there.   A GM's day off is Sunday.  Vacation, sick, and personal days off are also not real.  If you're sick, you shouldn't be running a store.  Personal days are a joke.  I got one when my mother passed away, then got written up.  When I got smart and walked away, I left 5 weeks vacation, over 40 sick days and 18 personal days on the table. (you cant roll them over, just added up).  There is a constant stream of emails (every 10 minutes) and phone calls (every 2 hours) letting you know how awful you are doing.  We as tenured managers (me 9 years) feel like our lively-hood is on the line with degrading calls and write ups all the time.  There is weekly inventory of all items. ALL items. 1000+ pieces.  This must be done and reconciled before opening on Monday.  I'm leaving this review because I ran a top 10 store of over 100 stores for over 2 years in all tracked categories.  Sales, Customer Growth, and Renewal Percentage.  I passes all audits, ran short handed 90% of the time and took no time off.  I trained and generated 5 new General Managers for the company and was eventually transferred to another store 30 minutes away for poor performance as an assistant GM.  Shortly after that I was transferred to a large store 2 hours away as General Manager to clean up inventory issues and grow the customer base.  We eliminated shortages and grew over 100 customers in the first year.  We lost 100 customers the following year partly because our VP demanded we couldn't sell to a specific area (perceived as bad customers) and switched out Regional Mangers 3 times.  Each with their own way of doing things.  During this time, I was transferred back to my original location as a General Manager for poor performance but got to keep my Salary.  Know that my family and I purchased a home and relocated 2 children in this move.  One was 10 and the other was 14.  (Not easy)  I have been away from the company now for almost 3 years.  It has been the best 3 years.  This review is not meant to bad mouth Aarons as I'm sure it will fit someone's lifestyle, but as a real review for new employees or anyone thinking about a career at Aarons.  Its not hard to work a 13 hour day, one day.  It gets a little more difficult to work six 13 hour days.  Think about a month of 13 hour days and only 4 days off and no vacation in site.  Think about the year and years that follow.  If you're single and want to date your co-workers (against company policy)  this might be the place for you.  If you're married, ask the GM that's interviewing you when they got a divorce.

I was hired into Aaron's in December of 2013. I was originally hired in as a CSR. They make themselves out to be a great place to work and that you can move up quickly, but this was not the case. The pay definitely does not match the workload. You are expected to do sales, keep the showroom stocked and clean, as well as take payments, handle collection issues and anything else they want to throw at you. You have to deal with management who will not support you and give you 50 different directions to go in.

It took me 4 1/2 years to get promoted, and after I got promoted to Sales Manager I realized why no one has lasted in that position for more than 16 months. Besides everything listed above you are also expected to go on deliveries and handle service issues, as well as doing the CAM's and GM's job if they don't feel like doing it. The physical labor is outrageous and if you go on a pick up what you might be picking up may be filthy and disgusting. There was no accountability for anybody. You are constantly hammered if your numbers aren't up to snuff but the GM's got to coast by. Oh, and when the stores decided to stay open on Sundays the SM was the one who was working 90% of the time. Want an additional Sunday off? Sorry, no can do. God forbid they made things a little more fair.

Don't get me started on how customer requests aren't honored. When I'm seen by people who used to be my customers when I'm out and about they all tell me how worse my old store has gotten since I left. This is one example. You can set up a card on automatic payments. Which by the way even though it's optional, you still have to push that and their stupid club program on the customer and you're deemed a failure if you don't sell it. Anyway, if you get paid on the 1st or 3rd but either of those days land on a Sunday, you are expected to call the customer the Friday before to see if you can run their payment. One customer who lives in the same building that I do, when I was still there she called and asked me to notate her account to not call her if this was the case and to just let her payment run as normal. I put this note on her account. I ran into her the other morning and she told me that they're still calling her to see if they can run her payment early, even though I put the note on her account to not do that.

This company does not care about their customers or their staff. They only care about their bottom line. I coasted by my last few months there because I was sick and tired of everything. I landed in a much better career in January and I could not be any happier. I will never go back to this company as long as I live. To anyone reading this, do not apply to this company. It will suck out your soul and all you'll be doing is spinning your wheels.

Accounts manager/trainee (most stressful position) Typical Day start by calling all buckets (front, middle and back) to collect monthly payment. Explanation: Front bucket are people that are 2-14 days late, middle is 15-30 days late, and back is 30+ days late clients. The "back bucket" are usually charge off, but sometimes to meet the require percentage to close a bucket for the month, regional manager with put on extensions on those clients which will dump them back to the front hence giving you more time to "harass" the client to pay up or return the merchandise if it's still in returnable condition. MAJOR FLAW "THEY DO NOT REPORT TO CREDIT BUREAU". So once the words spreads people will go to the store, get merchandise and skip payment. The most we could ever do is start a civil lawsuit. We could not sue every charge off because it will cost the company too much money. The ones we did sue never appear at court since it civil court matters. "You are the collection company" quoted from regional manager training. "This is not a office job, make the call and you get on the road and start knocking on these doors." Keep in mind most of our clients are from urban ghetto locations. Another thing once you were told by the client to stop calling them you could not call them again. We use what we called in the office "Ghost Phones". Ghost phone were not own by the company and were used to call bad paying customers. The owner of the franchise once explain "Our business is to sell. We sell to everyone and hopefully the good pay customers covers the lost merchandise from the bad paying ones." It's funny he will say that, when the day before they had written me up for not closing the buckets. I explain: If you make enough people pay you can you can get bonus (rarely, depends a lot on the area) but if you didn't get them to pay you are will get written up. Three write up leads to terminate, reason I renounce to my position. I was an account manager trainee, they will not start you at manager unless if you have worked as a manager at another Aarons. I was a trainee for 6 months put long hours 50-60. It stressful to depend on someone else payment to exceed in this position. I want a position where I can exceed on my performance. This is not a long term career and zero benefits. Definitely a unique experience I learn many things when it comes to accounting. Every night we have to close the register and report all payments. Sometimes there were mistakes, nightmare to many but that was best part for me. At heart I'm an accountant not an aggressive collector! It's sounds like fun and games to be knock on people doors to collect money until you get an aggressive client. Hopefully this review helps future applicants.

On a typical day at work you are responsible for hitting standards along with an abundance of non tangibles that must be performed.  Unfortunately I learned that some of the Aarons leaders do not care that you are understaffed or have a staff that was poorly trained before you arrived. You're not given any support when the demands of the job require more staffing and or staffing with the skill sets to do the job accurately. They could care less if you inherited a huge mess from prior management. The expectation is that when you are a general manager you have to have the ability to become 5 people at one time. You have to be able to correct mistakes of other employees that you don't know exist yet. You can reach out for help and all you will get is an answer that goes around the problem. If you have the right leadership in front of you, that is not overly burdened him or herself, you can do your job effectively with their support. If you don't get that opportunity, you are pretty much walking on eggshells with your job dangling over your head at every interval. All in all, with proper leadership and support, Aaron's would be a great place to work. With the wrong leadership you are told basically that you have to live at work, putting in 60 plus hours a week on most occasions, and basically get scolded when you take off 2 days in a months time. I've had some good experiences and some bad with this company. I reckon it becomes luck of the draw when you get into a store that is managed by someone who is competent, knowledgeable and supportive. Yes, there is some bitterness here. I just feel strongly that when you have an experienced employee that is crying for help, and it involves he/she having a passionate concern for the betterment of the company, it should be addressed with care. If you don't have the answer, that's fine, show the employee you care, by showing them that you are trying to get a reasonable answer to solve the issue. Have some lenience when you know they are faced with almost impossible tasks. Guide them instead of saying, you just need to get it done. Funny thing is, when I took on this position at this location, most of the other managers said that managers come here and die. Now, I can see why. I've never been the type of person to point the finger without looking at the other three pointing at me. Unfortunately not all people do the same.

i loved my job was easy learned alot in sales and all.most of my co workers i loved working with the 2nd regional i had was a different story if you didnt weigh or look a certain way he wanted you out unfortunately for him because of my sales he had no excuse to fire me so he had to live with it.i would never work there because he even went as far to say he wouldnt hire a woman for a pt because women couldnt do the drivers jobs only men could and then when i was threatened by another employee and the regional told me to stick it out and that he wasnt going to further investigate the situation i had to walk because of that reason not because i didnt like my job because i loved it i loved being able to make account calls and handle situations that a manager normally would i loved my coworkers we had fun and worked at the same time one employee faked an injury it was an injury that person had prior and got to sit down all day and take pills all day and tell customers how messed up they were that also had me walk out because i dont agree with that behavior in a work place no matter if you are on workmanscomp that person wore see through shirts thongs showing all day long and yet i got in trouble for wearing the wrong color blouse aarons doesnt care for all employees like they claim they dont let you advance i asked to be promoted was told no they didnt like me i didnt have it in me since i walked out of the store the store has gone from 620 customers to 500 in a month and a half that should tell you something about how well the regional and company lets the regional do what he wants not run the place like it should they dont pay you enough they cheat you you have to sale so much a month to make commision and if you are off by even one new customer sale you dont get commission csrs get 9 an hr to start sales mrgs dont get much more unless you look a certain way and speak 3 languages you can make 10.50 and hr i was told that by the person who was hired in making that much i just dont think it was worth working for a company claiming to be family valued and all because they dont care for your family thats for sure and when you leave aarons you are dogged by the regional himself he had a heart to heart with me about a prior employee as well so i can only imagine what he had to say about me since from day one he didnt like me and then i was told it was because i ddint look the part lol meaning i weighed to much and didnt wear makeup

A typical day in Sales at Aaron's consists of answering phones all day, and assisting customers with account management, payments, and adding on sales, either by phone or in the store.  Most days will also require some marketing efforts, such as cold calls, prepping flyers, or field marketing.
The sales manager is in charge of directing the sales team, driving sales, and managing the organization and cleanliness of the warehouse and the sales floor. They also must keep track of goals and progress on a daily basis. The sales manager is also the service manager, and will assist customers with any product malfunction.
At this company I learned how to read people's buying signals (body language), and how to get them to commit to a purchase. I also learned a lot about the legal aspects of the company. Sales manager is third in line to close lease agreements with the customer, (when the GM and CAM are not available.)
The hardest part about the job is keeping up with the multi-tasking, especially if your store is understaffed.  Also it is important to keep calm when customers are agitated. It does take practice to get comfortable going over the lease agreements with the customers, because of the importance of word selection, and using your intuition to fit the customer with the "right product".
The company holds high standards as far as ethics, although it does depend on the store you work in, and the staff in place as to how well they follow those standards. But of course, everyone is on their best behavior when the VP shows up!
There are opportunities to move up within the company, but you must keep that as a priority if that is your goal.  You have to be a go-getter to be successful in this business. Laziness is not acceptable.
The most enjoyable part of this job is having a good team that works together, and developing relationships with customers that will keep coming back, year after year, because they had a good experience.
The main complaint I have is the compensation was not quite what I felt was deserving.  The company also recently changed the bonus/commission structure, and are now open 7 days a week. Before the new CEO came, Aaron's ads would say, next to the hours and locations, "NEVER, NEVER OPEN ON SUNDAY!"  This being open on Sunday is to gain opportunity of sales to a new demographic, but from what I've heard many associates are disgruntled about working Sundays because that was one of the perks of working there: never working on Sunday.
