I cannot emphasize enough that this company is not worth working for, even if you're new and looking to gain experience in the medical field. They WILL burn you out, lie to you, and gaslight you into believing it's your fault for the problems that arise out of their inability to provide adequate staffing, training, or communication.

I have been in the medical field for years. This is hands down the worst company I have ever worked for. They have the highest turnover rate I have ever seen. I saw providers, nurses, and medical assistants leave within days of starting because of the slew of problems with this place. Be sure to ask about their turnover rate during your interview if you're tempted enough to get to this step in the process. When I asked about this, the question was skirted to push blame on staff for not communicating their concerns. I should have seen this a huge red flag, but I was excited about the opportunity for a new position (and promise for a promotion within a short time of hire).  Management does not listen to the needs of their staff. Instead, they'll blame you for their own shortcomings. Nurses are worked to the point burnout, tasked to run sites completely on their own. I felt particularly bad for the medical assistants who were often fired instantly for things beyond their control. I've never seen a more hostile work environment. 

Work hours and days can change without your knowledge; asking management questions about these changes is met with hostility, if you're acknowledged at all. They often used these undisclosed changes as a form of punishment and/or petty vengefulness for anyone they deemed unlikeable. I know it all sounds exaggerated, but unfortunately they're not. These are the types of things I wish I'd been warned about before working here and sharing these awful experiences with multiple staff members.

How this place is open is beyond me. This company is money hungry. Patients suffer. Medical staff suffer. Management does not care to improve patient care or the quality of the work environment for staff. Money is the bottom line and if you're not okay with that, be prepared to find yourself either targeted with blame or fired. Do yourself a favor and find another place of work.

I would never recommend this place.

I just started training here, but to be honest my experience up until now has been lackluster. I would expect that since I am a trainee, the current employees would be welcoming. I don’t know anyone’s names, and it’s already been 3 days. That’s a major red flag.

The training system is incredibly intimidating. If you’re someone like me, learning about insurances and other front office tasks is daunting if you lack the health care experience. I was assured I would learn everything on the job, but right now I’m more worried about messing up and being disciplined than encouraged to work on my weaknesses. Throughout my training I kept thinking to myself “if I was training someone, this is NOT how I would explain things.” Second major red flag.

Finally, I had applied as a medical scribe knowing that I would lack the skills and learn them on the job. When hired on, I was told I would be working as an MA starting at front office and then back office. Not the position I intended, but I did not say anything because I thought I was going to be introduced as the scribe. After making attempts to address this, I was immediately  told that it was not going to happen. Third and final  major red flag.

Personally, I wasn’t looking to get coddled, but I explained to my trainer about my nerves and expressed how inadequate I felt. He lacked any sympathy for my concerns and just said that “just do better.”

Overall, the position and opportunity is impressive since you do learn skills that are essential in the medical field. Working closely with PAs, NPs, and MDs, you get a sense of what their jobs entail. However, I really do believe the company needs to revevalute their training techniques since they need a lot of improvement on this. Addressing concerns and understanding the learning curve and expectations from this job are difficult need to be addressed. I wish I could say I enjoyed the experience, but honestly I dreaded going into training and work everyday.

Action Urgent Care is unlike any professional workplace I've been employed at. The upper management is highly disorganized. They have such a high turnover rate of their employees because they don't know how to communicate. If they showed a decent amount of respect for me, then maybe I would have stayed, but that's completely impossible for the upper management. This place is physically and mentally taxing. They are so understaffed and expected us to do the most given the bare minimum training. The management blames majority of their problems on new hires when the issue originated prior to their hire and lies within the way they run their clinics. They offered me to become manager, which I declined because I would have been given unrealistic goals in which they don't allocate enough time to complete. The upper management needs to work on communication. They just demand unrealistic outcomes. They expect you to do everything. You have to be wonder woman/man to work here. The upper management has no idea what's going on in clinic and has the audacity to harass you through email and text when clearly they could never do what we did because they would have demonstrated the "efficient way to do things". The providers are burned out and so are the MAs. There are no medical scribes here just. The culture is very hostile and the only thing I learned was that this work environment is something I never want ever again. 

Supportive environment, someone is always available if you have questions. Great opportunity to learn from peers/ providers and grow skills relating to administrative and direct patient care. This is a fast paced environment and one must be able to self direct and multi-task. Really depends on the personality of the person, but I found that taking the initiative to utilize the resources available to me (billing dept, management, providers, etc.) always helped me understand complex issues relating to my duties. Co-workers are dedicated and knowledgeable, management supportive (will give you additional training if you need or request it).  I've also learned to use some really cool tech in healthcare delivery- also a plus. There is also room for growth as employees are promoted from within. This is a great place to work if interested in medicine, applying customer service skills, or if trying to familiarize yourself with healthcare administration. When issues arise in company culture, training, etc., they are addressed and rectified immediately. Employees are encouraged to ask questions and not be afraid of admitting to mistakes (we are all human). My experience thus far has been positive.

The company has to many expectations for the nurses, they expect them to be the sole person to do the job of a complete office, and expect it to be done in unrealistic time frames. They email constantly and expect you to reply to every single one. They micromanage worse then a Kindergarten teacher due to the lack of trust they have for their employees. They constantly blame the staff for supplies not being in the clinic when orders are placed and upper management is the only ones who can approve the orders, the orders either get declined all together, or altered to what they deem appropriate when they have not stepped foot into a clinic. They claim to have state of the art equipment however it always malfunctions or has some sort of issue, they do not have a proper IT team to handle any type of IT issue that is constantly happening and expect the nurses to know how to fix it and get upset when they don't or can't and are turning away patients due to the fact they can not properly be seen since technology is the heart and sole of the company.

There needs to be a major shift in this company's management strategy. Most modern companies are adopting a human approach to management while this company is literally doing the opposite. 

Current management is stuck in high school level pettiness and cannot think critically, connect with the staff, or problem solve. Management style is very authoritative- which is funny because it’s as if management itself is not confident in its role and half heartedly regurgitates polices and practices without even a feigned interest in the perspective of the staff. The Chief of staff is visibly lost all the time and has no backbone. Lower management is jaded and do their best but is ultimately untrained, out of the loop, and over worked. There needs to be more people in management with the proper attitude, integrity, communication skills, and ABILITY to lead. 

Upper management is a joke. The COO is HIGHLY unqualified to be in her position. No technical skills, no people skills, no professionalism. She's surrounded by "yes" people who feed into her delusions and paranoia. From the chief of staff to the directors - they all half heartedly push an agenda to appease the CEO and COO and it shows. Everyone can see through the puppets and the illusion cracks. All staff just go along with what they say just to get through the day and laugh at them behind their backs. 

There needs to be a MAJOR revamp of management for this company to be the least bit reputable.  Honestly the turnover rate and overall performance of this company has taken a nose dive- why is the current leadership still intact? MAs come and go and yet the systemic problems with the company PERSIST. The common factor is management. Get rid of them and bring in educated, experienced, PROFESSIONALS. 

I've been working at Action for under a year and already it's been a very educational experience. As a premedical student, its a great way to get started with clinical experience before jumping into the world of healthcare head-on. The ops managers are very encouraging to help you learn and train you in necessary basic skills fairly quickly. The way they set up training is a bit challenging, but they give you resources to help you learn and advance, and they test you on your skills for a certain period of time first before moving you up to train in new ones. The nurse practitioners and physicians assistants are also great resources and the ones I've worked with have been wonderful! For a part time job while still in school, it's manageable and a good experience.

- Connect with PA/NP mentors, all of them are genuinely passionate about providing care to their patients
- Meaningful patient interaction
- Flexible schedule (several MA's are full-time students)
- Other MAs are willing to pick up shifts if you can't make it to yours during an emergency
- Letters of recommendation from PA/NP
- Connect with other pre-health MAs. 
- Company pays for scrubs (up to $50)

Cons
- Management doesn't really care about its patients. They care more about bringing more patients in for the $$$ even though the patients may need to wait hours in the room to be seen.
- You really can't prioritize a patient's need over the management or else you would get written up and eventually fired.
- You need to make patients check in twice (once on an app and once on our EMR check-in).
- No one really gets a raise
- No benefits

First off they hire you for a clinic not telling you that you will be in the clinic alone. You are not trained well at all. They give you a few days of training and expect you to run the clinic as an LVN/MA. You are a nurse, janitor, reception, technician, call center and you do administrative work all in one. They expect you to provide this high level of service but don't want to hire a trainer to properly train you. They give you a handbook and when you ask qquestions they refer you this handbook stupid!! The patient is there and you want me to find the answer in this handbook. 
 All new training/policy is added to handbook and your are expected to self train yourself by watching a video.They have you draw blood knowing you haven't drawn blood before without giving you proprer training keep in mind your alone in the clinic and can mess up but have no one there to assist you.Very stressful job.
