I joined ActivCare after a new Nursing Director was hired. In my experience, I always felt supported in my role as an LVN Charge Nurse. Some members of the care team have been working there for many years, which means they have the best understanding of the residents and the residents’ routine; they teach new care staff effectively. Trainings for my nursing role was very thorough; ask questions until you feel comfortable. This is a special kind of skilled nursing. All of the residents have memory impairment of varying levels. If you really have the heart for nursing, it takes a special kind of nurse to work in memory care. Do this for the ones who can no longer advocate for themselves; do it for the families who don’t know/ don’t understand and need educating; do it to influence others to communicate effectively with residents to provide optimal care, with patience and dignity. Yes, any shift can be demanding, but when there’s a team that want to be there to do their job, it gets easier with help. When you expect a job to be demanding, you are already preparing yourself for a shift because anything can happen. Some days are better than others. Understand that every care giver, med tech, all staff are busy; be safe, keep your residents safe. Recognize who your high risk residents are; who are the wanderers; who have special dietary restrictions; etc. It makes work so much easier. I enjoyed being a part of the team at this location. Aside from the negative reviews that I saw prior to applying, I sent an application anyway because there’s more to w company than a review- look at their website, read more reviews, take a chance and meet their management, tour the community.

Overall working working here was a good experience. I had some amazing residents and very few great co workers. This job has it’s ups and downs just like any other job. However, it was so crucial for me. Working at Brittany’s House gave me the opportunity to grow as a person and a better worker. It taught me patience, sense of urgency, people skills, and importance of family(based on the residents). I always had a passion for making myself better and moving up and challenging myself. With that being said, I always looked for possibilities of promotion within the job as well as the likely hood of it. When I wanted the position, I worked hard and long for them. My supervisor at the at time was jealous of me and my work ethics so he began to treat me unfairly. He began to retaliate his anger unto me and made me have a difficult time. Because of that, I decided enough was enough and I put myself first and decided to quit. I haven’t been back since. 

I worked at ActivCare until very recently due to personal reasons, but the experience I had there was very good! The management really took care in knowing that we were ready to be on the floor, which was very comforting to me because I had never been a caregiver before. I think the communication between caregivers and nurses was also really great, and the residents were always taken care of because of it. The executive director, lead LVN, and other higher management were all very easy to talk to, and participate a lot in activities around the center, which was always a joy to see! Overall, for people interested, my one piece of advice is to make sure you know if caregiving is for you. If this is a field that fits you, then this is definitely a great place to work.

This is the best place I've worked in my professional life. My manager is supportive, strong and understanding, and I know that she sees me as a person. I feel good about what I do, and I look forward to coming to work. I feel secure in my job, and I know where I stand with the people around me. The environment is upbeat and supportive, and we do our best to address any issues as they arise. I work with a lot of genuinely kind, dedicated and compassionate people. No workplace is going to be perfect, and obviously we face many of the same challenges as other companies, but I'm really happy, and I hear most of my coworkers saying the same thing. I could see myself staying at this company for a long time.

The envirnment was hostile and the management was the worst I have ever worked for.

When I tried to help the patients, I was reprimanded for catching someone when they were about to fall, tying a patients shoes, asking Care Giver's to help patients go to the bathroom.

I was told my only job was to make lame projects and play bingo.  One of the patients was an extra for Gone with the Wind so the group wanted to see, I was told it wasn't active enough.

When I tried to bring in new projects that would interest patients I was told that they had Alheimers and couldn't talk.

I was horrified at the kind of people that were in charge.

this company will have you work shifts that you did not agree to in the initial interview. even if you have other commitments, you will be expected to work whatever shift they need you for. if you don’t, well you’re just going to get written up for not showing up to work. this company lacks effective communication amongst management and floor staff, they aren’t straight out about anything, some things are “hush hush.” two meetings a month that you must attend, and it’s all the same videos you’ve seen time after time. i don’t recommend working for this company, they don’t value their staff. if you go above and beyond don’t expect even a simple “thank you.” 

I haven't worked there for a while but if its the same as before just dont do it, especially if you're a caregiver. They will burn you out, they don't care if a patient is aggressive and they especially don't care if you get hit by them. They have you always on a time limit for patients. They expect you to spend 15 mins with a patient and have all care done for them when we all know 15 minutes is not enough time to help the elderly go to the bathroom, dress them, do hygiene care, clean their room, bring them out to the dining room etc. I have so much to say but not worth the headache. Idk about the other locations. This is just the Orange location.

Balanced out work day would include answering phone calls, greeting visitors, letting outside agencies in and out of facility. I usually make copies, file papers in the back and refill paper for copy machine. The job itself isn't hard its just really about having a good attitude and doing all you can within your reach to help the family members, residents and co workers out. The most enjoyable part of the job is really getting to know the family members and talking with them as much as the residents in the facility.

With years of experience in this field, I am confident to state that our community is the very best that I've been a part of. Beautiful building, flowering gardens and stellar location. Leadership actively engages to keep workplace culture fun and make employees feel appreciated. Executive Director believes tasks and training should be made as enjoyable as possible. 

Good company to get your foot in the door as caregiver. Nice location.
