The J&J Credo is the best that I have ever seen. However, ASP chants it in public but then goes to work and seems to forget that it ever existed. I've seen co-workers verbally abused to the point of tears by managers. Behavior that in other companies would put the manager in HR picking up his pink slip. The company is driven by schedules and management bonuses. The engineers could produce some terrific products if given the time and resources. But management is not very good at planning projects and makes the engineers cut corners on everything when the schedule falls behind. 

The company is always trying the latest industry fads and fashions. There are some great benefits and good job security. (saw a guy get caught stealing a co-workers iPhone and just got a slap on the hand). They are into the 'open-office' layout, only offices for VPs, everyone else is on a first-come, first-get work station policy. Makes people get to work on time. Come in late and who knows where you get to sit. Everyone has a locker just like high school for your personal items. Many of the workers seem to like this arrangement but I think it is highly inefficient. 
So, overall ASP can be a great place to work for college grads and entry level positions. But if you are old school, this is may not be the ideal place for you.

A typical day at work is 8-10 hours depending on if you work a 4 or 5 day schedule.  It consists of repetitive hand work and standing through the shift. Wednesday would have a 1 hour meeting day. This consisted of 1st and 2nd shift leads , and manufacturing Supervisor.  During this weekly meeting the leads would constantly tell us how we were doing things wrong and always shifting blame on others. Very unprofessional!

During the time I was there I did learn a lot from the team who was willing to show me. I was certified in their main department after a few months. I was the 5th certified team member of our 11 people staff.

The hardest part about work is the constant down talk from higher up with the exception of supervisor. The supervisor at ASP was great but high management seems to be struggling to retain employees. 


The most enjoyable part of the day was breaks and working with team members. Lead on both shifts do not like others to talk and 2nd shift lead never stand up for her members. 

Good luck if you work there. It could be the Titanic.


I was at ASP for just over 4 months, in that time the CEO left due to not being able to advance. The collections department is led by a person who has no accounting experience which makes it hard to follow someone who doesn't understand basic accounting principle's . 
Their documentation system for internal notes on accounts was constantly broken or "experiencing a glitch" which meant notes could not always be entered but you are still held accountable for notes not being in the system. While I was there I inherited a portfolio that had many accounts in the 120+ columns with no contact being made on either side. Contacts constantly out of date, sales is little to no help because they are paid when the order is invoiced not when it's paid. 

Management will speak down to you in front of other employees in order to show "who's boss" They promote they have a great culture and a tight knit team but after my time there I can truly say none of the employees are happy in that department.

What is the best part of working at the company?
No proper training ax expected . Lack out of communication of management staff . They could bother when you are finished your work day or you are stayed at home. Sometime  they want you to do something even you are working in the middle of the job . If you stop your current assigned job you could start over again as time wasted .  They are not hired you even you are done a lot of test cases as your assigned job as excellent performance . Finally I were very regretted  to spend out my time there and learnt nothing as scheduled . Plus enjoyed unprofessional management  system as out of order status . If you want to keep your job safe  you must learn how to kiss up people ‘s That is not my solid nature skills I had gotten in my school.

Not professional as they are in this century .

Micromanaging, Stressful, force you to do duties not in job description. If no proficiency they will cut you loose. Company acts like it’s all about family but don’t fall for it. Your co-workers will back stab. Watch out with the lead as well. The manager I had was not qualified for position but somehow was there. I was always being watched for no reason. Always had to be busy, no downtime although lead and manager were always sitting on computers or talking about social events . Take talent elsewhere. They have no employee retention. People quit because of unrealistic job duties or expectations. All the good managers either retired or left the company long ago. I don’t blame them. The new owner looks shady. Words of advice “Don’t bother!”

A typical day at work is to come to work and check your email for any further instructions that might be added to your day. Do what needs to be done without being told to do so. Make sure to document all processes that are taken. I learned to manage my time wisely and make sure things are done with precision and accountability. The management is great. They make sure they go over anything that has to be done in great detail. My coworkers come and go, they either go to grad school or find other careers that help them excel in their life. Although everyone at ASP have a great personality and positive attitude. The most enjoyable part of my job is the people around me, the ability to go to school while working, and learning about biomed.

Like most places, what makes or breaks ASP is who you work for.  Some departments have great managers/directors and others not so much.  Generally everyone here is friendly.  Working with other departments can be a pain unless you know the right channels to go through.  If you're a motivated individual you can succeed here, but be prepared to put in the hours.

It's gotten a more corporate feel over the years which some of the older employees dislike. The middle managers have the majority of power.  Directors and VPs will often rotate hands but that's the corporate norm... and be prepared to be in meetings 50% of the day.

This job is very challenging and it is rewarding to know that you are affecting the lives of millions of patience by protecting them against infection.  The company culture had been very much a blame culture, with factious silo-ed mentality and an overall lack of collaboration and trust.  This situation has improved and continues to  improve.  But it is a company in rebuilding mode and as such, work life balance is not consistent.  Additionally, it is difficult to advance without moving across the country.  Company business process are in need of further improvement, but the future looks bright.

I worked for ASP for 5 years and loved my job until the company was sold from J&J to Fortive. In the last 3 years, I had 7 VP changes - this is no way to run a company. The last set of VPs had no idea what I had done for this company and didn't care. The VP that laid me off had been there 6 weeks; two other VPs involved in that decision had been there less than 6 months and less than 1 year. 

Management sucks. They are bosses, not leaders. ASP has a difficult time holding onto talent, so all we’re left with is the bottom of the barrel. Departments and managers play the blame game a lot. New management is always brought in from the outside or from another department. As a result, management is always out of touch with the employees and the work. It could be a good company, but honestly it’s been going downhill for a while. They really need to clean house. Especially upstairs.
