The work I do feels meaningful. I'm given the opportunity to advance the department which allows you to gain more skills and responsibilities. Which is a good thing if you're trying to advance your career and skills.

The office culture is good but if really depends on your department. It does at times feel a bit silod because of how floors are structured. It would be good if HR offered more engagement opportunities for staff. This only builds on staff comradery and networking opportunities. 

Management is great for me but like any job it really depends on who you get for a boss. My coworkers are friendly, thoughtful, smart and think outside the box which is encouraging. I will say that Einstein is a place where you can start and finish your career if you really wanted to. The only thing that may get in the way is pay and/or yearly raises/location. A lot of people aren't really excited about the Bronx but Einstein has a nice campus that is very well maintained.

The hardest part of the job is and will be lack of interest in change and innovation from fellow staff who are kinda set in their ways. You'll work with some who embrace technology and then there are others who are just simply not interested. I guess it's a matter of you don't know what you don't know.
 
The vacation package is a really good as well as the benefits (medical, dental, vision, retirement). It can be a bit costly monthly but I believe it's worth it. My only true criticism is the lack of pay raise transparency for non union staff.

My experience has been a good one because the people really do make it. I've yet to come across anyone not willing to help. My advice to anyone is to ask lots of questions and don't be shy about it. Einstein like any other place has it's issues but it's an all around good place to work. 

A typical day at work consist of managing MIS Helpdesk and assisting users of the software system, EHR, as well as the billing system.  I also manage the integrity of the data that is entered into the systems.  Currently working on a major database consolidation. Editing, adding and identifying information in the tables to ensure a smooth transition from multiple databases to one consolidated database.  
I have had the great opportunity to learn what is needed for the EHR to run, how work remotely in assisting users. The importance of the integrity of the data entered into the system. 
Management from my perspective, was a bit challenging from being working side by side with co-workers to managing them, nevertheless, understanding both sides of the work it has allowed me manage with understanding the staff as well as the needs of the organization. 
As per working with management, I have had an opportunity to work under good leadership. 
Working along side different personalities is a great learning experience, what is important is having the end goal in mind.  
The hardest part is working with those who have a difficult time being part of the team.  Nevertheless, as stated regarding co-workers once the end result is what is important it is a workable situation. 
The most enjoyable part of my job is being able to learn and assist others.  As well as working with the software companies staff as they have taught me a great deal as well.  
Overall, this experience has been a great asset to my learning and growing in this field.

The the day to day was planning and executing experiments which depended on previous work done in the laboratory or from published scientific papers.  Other duties included training other personnel in radiation safety, lab safety, making solutions, water chemistry,tissue culture, small animal surgery, general DNA prep, DNA cloning and DNA prep to make transgenic mice,  maintaining and repairing laboratory equipment, ordering supplies and inventory control, radiological inventory control and accountability.

Management at AECOM was a two-fold system.  There was the college itself which oversaw the general management of the institution.  However, the laboratories were generally regarded as 'quasi-independent' contractors.  The labs were responsible for acquiring their own funding through grants.  'Management' changed according to which laboratory you were hired on by.

Generally, my 'co-workers' were PhD candidates and/or Post-Doctorate Fellows and were quite nice to work with.  

The best part of the position was putting the data together and start the process of writing and editing the paper for publication in a scientific journal.

The most difficultly encountered was getting everyone from different countries on the same page when it came to laboratory safety; especially radiation safety.

As a former technician in a well stocked core microscope facility, I have been exposed to a very wide variety of microscope techniques, cell types, and organisms. The work environment was initially relaxed, and thus productive. Our facility had an incredible amount of high end microscopes that continue to serve the scientific community at Einstein with a high level of success. 

In addition to science they also have a focus on the arts, hosting several Art Nights per year, an orchestra, and a magazine specifically devoted to creative works of Einstein employees. 

My favorite part about working at Einstein was the diversity of the people who worked there. I have met people from all over the globe and side by side, we all worked together for a common goal. The science was always the priority. Its an excellent institution to work in.

I joined Einstein as a postdoc 9 years ago with high hopes. They pay the absolute minimum salary required by NIH. My department and my lab both lost funding within a couple of years. I had to scramble to find another lab at Einstein so I don't lose my immigration status. After 3 years in the new lab also lost funding like many other labs losing grants and talents constantly. 
My status changed to associate after 5 years of postdoctoral work but salary stayed the same, and because the lab is out of money and staff I have to do all the work leaving me little time for personal growth and career development. 
It's hard to accomplish anything or get things done at Einstein. The staff in many departments are hard to get hold of and when you manage to do it they are severely inefficient and take ages to get the job done, probably because they're also underpaid and have to live with awful benefits. I wouldn't recommend this place and regret coming here.

As a postdoc I enjoyed the intellectual interaction within the department through regular guest speakers and events. However, the quality of life was very poor. I was overworked and underpaid by NIH standards and other NYC university standards and struggled to get a modest raise after nearly 2 years when I requested one. As a Med School, it offers no technical support for researchers (as there's no engineering or computer science departments) and no technical courses because it does not cater for anything outside of the medicine and the few graduate programs. The subsidized postdoc accommodation was appalling and unsanitary - constant cockroach infestations and numerous cases of the housing office refusing to refund deposits owed to postdocs and students. The housing staff were a nightmare to deal with. There are much better options in NYC!

I would assign work to the staff and also do animal husbandry, I would check supplies and make sure the staff had all supplies they needed. I learned that animals are necessary to expand the well being of the human race. I was able to reach a supervisory position in this profession, I was able to work with most of the workers in good terms and I had to get used to the dealing with some of the others who could not keep up with the work load of the day.
The hardest part is dealing with un co-operative workers who's main objective is to get away with as little as possible.
The best part was handling the staff in a manner that would complete the work assignment for the week and still be prepared for the coming week, also handling any situation that would pop up during the week and still complete the job that was assigned during the week. Working with the animals was a real treat also.

I answered phones, sent faxes, maintained filing for first and second year medical students.  Confirmed faculty for all the first and second year classes. Ordered lunch, set up appointments for the administrator. Worked in the book store often. Helped all the medical students with any of their school needs.  Made copies, always updated syllabi and the first and second year school calendar. That was a typical day.  I learned how to be a resource of information and help  to the medical students, to my co-workers and, with all the other medical school staff.  I got along very well with all levels of management and was able to work well with under pressure.

Community-focused research designed and conducted in service of the local community. Basic scientific research excellence.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Entrenchment of personnel/leadership in some key departments and operational areas minimizes progression and advancement, posing existential challenges with adapting to consistently evolving macro environment.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Generally positive. Cultivates awareness of cultural needs and challenges and works to make inroads in areas of disparity.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Unpredictable from day-to-day but generally rewarding. Assignments outside of core job functions materialize out of necessity or must be addressed due to outdated processes and technologies.

A typical day at the job is fast paced. Assisting students along with faulty to ensure that they have the correct tools to performed their duties on a daily bases. Submitting over 90% of transcript on a daily bases and input of grades in Banner system, and updated students files. I have learned to communicate well and to share my knowledge and experience inorder to improved my department and the institution. Management is very much involved with the staff and the students. Co-workers are family. We work together to achieve productive, but most improtant we all care for the students and their well being. The hardest part of the job is to see a student struggle with their classes. The most enjoyable part of the job is to see the students complete their classes and become MD. This shows me I am doing my job and have assisted that student in whatever way I can.
