Great opportunity out of college. Favorites by mgmt. When mismanagement starts at the top, it all rolls downhill. I dedicated my life to the cause, a good one, but when i actually needed a hand I realized just how disposable I was. For example, when grant $ mis-managed, instead of the ones in charge of keeping up with finances being reprimanded, I was simply told they could no longer afford to keep me. In the beginning, I interviewed (and made follow up call) for a  FT position, i was assured it was. When i filled out papers it was suddenly PT. I thought I'd prove my value. I did 1+ year. Everyone else hired even after me got moved to FT. Not me. Everyone tried to tell me it was part racial. I did NOT want to believe that. Then when i knew funds were tight,  I made sure all work was productive or off clock. Never noticed. I guess if reducing reducing my hours to a maximum of 1day/week truly helps program, it was in dire existence. ( the ft staff are doing secretarial work til grant renews end of month).I felt used. Unvalued, disposable, and hurt for a company that wants to express they're all "family". It's sad this place is to transform lives, but not sure who's really included. Guess I wasn't . most other team member workers are caring and act concerned, but don't fall for the hype. You're really alone.

I enjoy working for the company. However, I do not agree with some of the decisions that upper management has made lately in regards to Covid 19.  I believe that some of these new regulations that were imposed on employees should be thought out much better than they are.  It is the right and choice of the individuals regarding the vaccination, and I do understand if you receive government funds you have to do what they require, however, I do think it is a bit shady to give company-wide raises then roll out the new regulations as if we are being bribed.  No one’s health is worth a set dollar amount, and the vaccine has proven that it does very little to protect against Covid 19 or its many variants better than personal protective equipment would.  My health is not worth 43k or even 85k.  It is priceless.  Health and happiness cannot be bought.  

A typical day here on this job was very toxic and stressful due to  management . The leaders never worked in the facilities with us and they lacked understanding of what was need to be done to make a successful work place.Often times we feel that having employees that knew exactly what we needed to help the people in the  program successfully recover was our culture we had . I feel as though we wasn't allowed to do our job. Another no structure,and no plans in place  or accountability from the top  when scheduled  workers  didn't show up to work. We always knew that the schedule was not covered and we wouldn't get off on time.The most enjoyable part of this job was that patients could  get great coping tools to remain sober.


What is the best part of working at the company?
The purpose of the project: Being part of something with so much passion in assisting Women/Mothers in improving their livelihood & overcoming the Abuse of Illegal Substances and or alcohol. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Not having much support and hands on training from Executive Team, lack of communication, ineffective communication, blame shifting, “dictation leadership style” versus allowing others to have input. Unorganized.

Confusion/Chaotic when things are unclear.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The interaction with the clients and being a part of their recovery 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The way upper management and clinical staff treat the women clients. They do not honor the treatment plans and women leave out the same way they come in except they are sober. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Poor. If your not cool with the upper management not doing their jobs then you are basically treated like poor until you quit. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Babysitting women trying to get their life together and wondering when Aletheia House Women’s Center is ever going to get caught in their deception.

I was say working at the (Aletheia House) is very interesting first off it’s starts off as a warming job… everyone is friendly and tries to help but…as the days progress  the drama behind the scenes unfolds… I mean it comes down to a lot of underlining things that takes place in this business the pay is OK it’s doable but I really wouldn’t recommend someone working here long-term unless you mean business… you mean well and you know you got to move up and take somebody out spot . It’s alot of favoritism and covers ups they do at the company. 

A typical work day was very busy and fast paced.  I learned a lot while working at the Aletheia House but you also learned positive and negative things about the company's management, and the unfair treatment of employees.  Workplace culture was family oriented and very flexible.  The most difficult aspect of the job was being treated fairly and having the same opportunity as my coworkers; management had their favorites.  The most enjoyable aspect of the job was working with my coworkers.

Aletheia House employs a multitude of friendly workers and they provide many services for the community. However Management is clueless and there is no training. Its up to you to figure out what to do and there is not direction for any of the programs outside of Birmingham.  They attempt to make it seem like a family culture to make up for the downfall of their leadership in management but most of the employees can see right though the b.s.. If you absolutely need a job then its a good spot but if not keep searching.

Aletheia House is a very good place to work if you want to be connected to an organization that cares about the people they are serving. It starts from the Executive Director who is a brilliant business leader but is humblle and down to earth. This is rare. The employees are very friendly and approachable which makes for a supportive and stressless environment.

They definitely show no concern for their staff nor the clients. Be prepared to do your job plus additional things they throw on you. They make up rules as they go. Most of the managers are not properly trained. You may have the opportunity to move up in a different position. Expectations are unrealistic and many people leave because of it. The turnover rate is extremely high. This job will burn you out. Overall it’s great experience and it’s an opportunity for clinical growth.
