I KNEW I made a difference here. I believed in the service we provided. I liked the people I worked for/with. I felt wholly accepted and it helped me relax and BE my best. I was free to use the best of my skills and still challenged. I learned a lot about myself, how I work and how to adjust how I work to meet more needs around me. I learned that I am very well organized and that this makes me a productive "machine". I'm proud of the fact that my only real criticism was a request to "be less efficient" because I had developed a precise order for opening and closing files that was "too" well-timed for what we were able to handle. I have an ideal eye that enjoys feeling for and looking for cleaner and neater and quicker and more accurate and complete ways of doing things.
(side note: At my Admin position at the church, I REALLY enjoyed training and managing volunteers in different tasks and helping them succeed and feel good about their contributions.)
The hardest part of this job was some hard feelings between my boss and a co-worker I got along with. We didn't gossip, so I never knew or understood WHY she was so sore with this woman -but, I didnt like that my job-related interactions were strained by her personal feelings. It made me uncomfortable because I wanted to please my boss, but I don't let others' issues shape my opinions or feelings about people. I watch and test-but I also discern.
I enjoyed the therapists that I communicated with while I worked aggressively daily to help increase their caseload and make sure they receive what they need and answer their requests. I enjoyed running my corner of the department with great diligence & accuracy - constantly re-organizing for speed and efficiency as constraints changed and increased. (I find that good organization reduces the tension and stress that "happenstances" cause because of their imminent nature.)
What I wanted most when I left was to know that the difference I made would continue to keep my boss unencumbered so that she can continue to move forward with more pressing tasks & excel in her position; and also, to give the next person who takes on my tasks an easy road to keep the order I set those files in - to make things easier AND quicker and enable more accomplishments in other directions - promoting the company's growth. Unfortunately, my position was eliminated because a lack of revenue forced them to close another branch and downsize at this office as well.
For this reason, I find that the contribution of my best skills is made to assist stars to shine their brightest & encourage others to SEE how much further they can go by rethinking the order and eliminating the unnecessary and replacing the irrelevant with the purposeful to refine their vision. WOW - that sounds more philosophical rather than my specific job goals, but I suppose that is the floor of my "organized" ambition that keeps all my other skills flying.

Your day starts with on-call duties. If there is more than one CSM then you rotate on call responsibilities weekly. If not, you are expected to take it on consistently. Branches are expected to bend over backwards for corporate. There is no work/life balance; they will ask that you take on responsibilities  not within your scope when an employee leaves instead of hiring a new employee. 
You manage at least 30 clients-more often closer to 50-and corporate refuses to hire more staff until your work load is at 75 clients. You manage the admit, suspension, and discharge of all clients. You manage the caregivers schedule for every client, including the substitutions required for necessary  caregiver training or requested time off. You are responsible for the caregivers timesheets and clocks. You complete the payroll for hours worked with clients bi-monthly and are expected to manage the regular work day as well. You answer phone calls from clients, caregivers, and case managers from various entities. You are expected to handle any situation that arises.  As needed, you guide your caregivers through emergency events with their clients and complete reports to give to the State. You are responsible for conducting and managing corrective actions for all caregivers. 
You schedule and complete bi-annual home visits and update paperwork for every client, or as often as needed, and yearly evaluations for all caregivers. You are consistently  adjusting schedules and coordinating the addition of new clients. You are responsible for admitting new clients; this also equires an initial home visit.
Meetings with ED and higher are held to discuss finances and profit almost exclusively. These meetings are scheduled around their available time, not the branch employee availability. Branches are expected to turn a profit, even at the detriment of the vulnerable population they are supposed to be serving. 
 They do not give consistent pay raises, and refuse to maintain inflation rates. Unless it profited the company it was invisible or 'impossible'. They will not pay a sustainable wage. As of 2023 some caregivers make nearly as much as managers- $2/hr difference-and receive bi-annual pay raises. 
The work place culture in the Branches varied- I enjoyed it for the majority of my time there. Corporate work culture was profit focused and over demanding of employees. 
The hardest part of the job was not being able to provide the support for our clients when it was needed and the lack of support from corporate unless it was profitable. 
The two positive aspects were the co-workers-turned-friends in the branch and the support we were able to provide to our vulnerable adults in the community. 

ResCare Homecare is the most ignorant and fiscally irresponsible company that I have ever had the displeasure of working for. They claim to be "all about people", but it's really just the bottom line that they care about. There are quite a few caregivers and supervisors who seem to truly care about the clients, but upper management does nothing to support the people below them. There is a definite seperation between the Supervisors and the Directors. ResCare goes through frequent "restructuring" (layoffs) due to budget concerns, yet the executives have no problem dining at Outback Steakhouse for lunch, spending money on ridiculously expensive software that doesn't even fit their needs, "marketing"-which is basically taking people out to lunch and schmoozing them but there was never anything gained by this, it just seemed like an excuse to go to a fancy lunch or be out of the office. They do this, then they pass on a wage cut to the caregivers, or fire a few more people. They have eliminated any benefits that would make someone want to stay, there is no tuition reimbursement, they eliminated the company match portion of the 401k, they no longer let you cash out your PTO time, and the medical plans just get more and more expensive every year, despite having a deductible of $1500-$2500 depending on the plan you choose. And that's just the admin plan, the caregivers are offered a plan that I would barely call insurance. Wages are not competitive, every caregiving agency that I am familiar with pays more per hour, and gives raises. Don't ever expect a raise at ResCare, not even if you are amazing at what you do. They DO NOT give raises for merit. No mileage reimbursement or window time for caregivers either, even though they drive all over town from client to client. The hardest part of the job was keeping my mouth shut about all the dumb decisions they made over the 6 years I worked there, and the best part was the day I turned in my resignation letter.



1. A typical day at work:
A typical day at work involves handling client communications and managing my own tasks like reviewing reports or preparing what needs to be done for daily deadlines. The days vary depending on these deadlines, but I do try my very hardest to complete all tasks in a timely manner. 

2. What you believe you learned:
I’ve learned a lot about effective management, especially in terms of prioritizing tasks and working collaboratively under tight deadlines. Additionally, I’ve developed stronger communication skills with my clients. 

3. Management:
Management has been very open to feedback, although issues brought to attention are mostly never addressed to the team. I believe more clarity on long-term goals could further improve team alignment. 

4. Workplace culture:
 Most times everyone seems willing to lend a hand, and there’s a clear emphasis on mutual respect.

5. The hardest part of the job:
The hardest part of the job is balancing multiple tasks with competing deadlines. However, I’ve learned to improve my time management and prioritize tasks more efficiently to handle this challenge. The work is both challenging and fast-paced, with many deadlines and constant changes, I believe the team would really benefit from more regular recognition and appreciation. It can sometimes feel like the hard work and effort put in can go unnoticed, so having more acknowledgment from both management and the company would really help boost morale and motivate everyone to keep up the high standard of work we strive for.

6. The most enjoyable part of the job:
I really enjoy working as a supervisor for my clients in the home care setting. It’s rewarding to be able to make a positive impact on their lives and ensure they receive the highest level of care. Building strong relationships with my clients and has been particularly fulfilling, and I find great satisfaction in supporting each and every one of them.


I had to turn in my notice because the management at ResCare Homecare feel as though the clients are not as important as the money they get from servicing them. I was told on 2 occasions that our supervisor meetings were more important than the clients and that I could not miss a meeting even if that meant that the client went unstaffed that day. I was very upset at this and was then told that my attitude was bad because I was upset that I was told those things. They also told me that I was going to be hourly and then after hired on, told me I was hourly/salary in which the WA L&I has told me that there is no such things and I cannot be both. ResCare did this to avoid paying me overtime. They had me working many hours of overtime each week and I was never compensated for it. I couldn't tolerate the unethical behaviors anymore so I turned in a 3 week notice. After I turned in my notice, I was treated very poorly and spoken to as if I was a horrible person even though I was still doing my job to the best of my ability. It turned in to a very hostile work environment. My son had an emergency and I had to leave work early one day and was unable to go in the next day as well. I told my boss I would be in the following day for sure and she said not to bother. I was terminated early due to a family emergency. In all honesty, I am glad to be out of there but I had just bought a house and now I am struggling to find a new job because she terminated me early. In addition, while I was there, I was made to bake/buy baked goods to help raise money to feed the homeless, bring things in to put in raffle baskets for the same thing, and bring in food for the caregivers of the company for recognition. Now, I wouldn't have minded doing this anyway, but it was not an option. We were made to feel like we had no choice in the matter.

My day consist of reviewing my requisitions, setting up and conducting interviews as well as scheduling and conducting orientations. Maintaining employee files to ensure their in compliance with the policies and procedures of the state and the organization requirements. i’ve learned get my colleagues in this field has been an asset and resource in my ability to be successful in this role. Unfortunately, I don’t feel like management has had my best interest at heart I felt like we weren’t working cohesively as a team. It was more of me feeling like I was on the outside because I didn’t agree with the way certain situations were being handled and as a result, I felt like the entire management team was retaliating and various ways that would have a negative impact on my performance, inability to grow within the organization. the work culture within my branch was not one that represented a teamwork. It was been more cliquish which has impacted morale constant loss of support employees on top of caregivers. enjoyable part of this job has been my collection to the people that I have met as a result of my recruiting effort, the partnerships that I have made with various organizations in the community but on the other hand, there is areas in which I feel that I have been having difficulty with and that is trying to get management as well as other coworkers to realize the importance of teamwork in order for our branch to be truly successful. The ability to grow and advance in this organization depends on if you’re in the right group if you are not your chances of growing and developing or advancing are minimal.

Working at Allways Caring Home Care was one of the most disappointing professional experiences I’ve ever had. There is absolutely no room for growth, and any initiative or ambition you show is met with distrust from upper management. The higher-ups don’t value your contributions and make it very clear that you’re just a number. Since I’ve been working here, I’ve had two managers, and both of them complained about the exact same things — the lack of structure, the overwhelming amount of work, and how little they were compensated for it. That speaks volumes. Most of the time, you’re left in the office by yourself because we are extremely understaffed, and yet the workload keeps piling up.The regional HR is shockingly unqualified. It’s clear they don’t understand even the basics of HR, let alone how to support employees or resolve issues fairly. If you go out of your way to help or be flexible, they will take full advantage. Give them an inch, and they will absolutely take a mile.
Compensation is poor across the board, and you’re expected to go above and beyond for very little in return. There’s zero accountability within the nursing staff. The nurse comes and goes whenever she feels like it, and there’s no schedule or structure in place to ensure consistent care.
Perhaps the most frustrating part is the lack of communication. Important updates are either delayed or never shared at all, and confusion is the norm. If you’re motivated, hardworking, or care about doing a good job, this is not the place for you. In fact, I wouldn’t recommend this job to my worst enemy.
If you’re looking for a paycheck and don’t mind chaos, disrespect, and dead ends, maybe this job is for you. But if you have goals, standards, or a sense of self-worth, look elsewhere

My Typical day at work will start with me verifying all employees are  were they should be working, starting with verifying clocked -ins on my software online and doing a quality service check on clients and verifying employee's clocked-ins and out time if necessary. verifying if clients are satisfied with their services and asking if there is anything their need help with or need me to advocate for them. Calling case manager's, verifying hours, authorizations, service codes and service plan. next 90 days assessment and individual Service Plan meeting scheduled verified with Case Manager/ Supervisor. Advocate for new clients and staffing needs etc. Making sure  all hours are utilized according to client Service Plan. Making sure all clients files are within compliant and guidelines with Company and State regulations. I've Managed over 87 plus Client Cases and Supervised over 50 employee's. Worked alone with my team of 12 plus Coordinators and 50 plus Case Managers at DDD to ensure clients are getting the help and services they need. Carrying company after hours cell phone to ensure clients are getting all their services and finding covered for emergencies when they occurred.  Microsoft: Excel, Words, PowerPoint's and Microsoft Office Knowledge. Typed 90 plus words per minute. Very good communication skills, get alone with others very well (people person) and work within company deadlines. Achievement  Awards  for excellence services and team work.  I take my job very seriously. I believe that personal business should be left  at home and not brought to work.

When i first started caregiving years ago i did so after my BabyGirl passed away at 5 weeks old from Sids. It gave me a purpose & made me feel good to give back & help the elderly/disabled. It was incredibly fulfilling. Sadly in the past year or so it has become a cheap maid cleaning service. There are people in their early 50’s-60’s getting on these services that basically only need a maid. They will take advantage of your kindness & slowly become even lazier than before you got there. They will tell you in your interview that you can perform “light house keeping” this is a joke to say the least. These people are getting services 2-3 days a week for you to go in to do 2-3 loads of laundry, deep cleaning of everything in their house, bathrooms, sweeping & mopping everyday, cleaning up their dirty kitchens from dinners the night before, meal preparations, grocery shopping, cleaning up after their animals, yard work, the list goes on & on of what these people will slowly get use to you doing for them. When you bring it up to management they will tell you “that’s not in your job description “ , but they will never speak to the clients to let them know that it’s not. So you get put in a hard place because you want to help out of the goodness of your heart, but they’re taking advantage of you. The things i do everyday, do not show up justice on my paychecks every two weeks. You bend over backwards to help & never get the recognition you deserve. I strongly encourage anyone these days to just apply for a house cleaning occupation because that’s exactly what you’ll be doing anyways… you just won’t be getting the money to show it. 

I work with developmentally disabled adults.

I work 3rd shift in which my duties include heavy deep cleaning,  checking on consumers every 30 minutes, and assisting consumers with their ADL's in the morning. I work 3 days have one day off then work another 3 days and have 3 days off work 1 day have another 3 days off.  

The hardest part about this job would not knowing what the consumers wants when he or she can not talk. It can mentally stressful because the consumers can have behaviors and one may not know how to re act or deal with the situation.

The most enjoyable part about my job is knowing I can put a smile on a consumers face and know that I do make a difference in their life.


What I have learned by working with adults with disabilities is that the individuals did not ask for the life they were given. Therefore, they should be able to live a normal life as if they didn't have a disability. They shouldn't be judged for the things they wear, the way they look, or the way they walk. They are a human with feelings, and no matter what they do in life, they will achieve goals, and dream just like anyone else. Life is what you make it.  No matter how hard life will get, these people push through, with a smile on their face and don't sweat the small stuff. They have encouraged myself to live life to the fullest and not let anything knock me down. Anyone can learn a valuable lesson from a developmentally disabled adult. I for one am very grateful to have the chance to help these individuals learn and grow into the people they are today.
