AltaPointe was my first full time counseling position and I loved my clients, several coworkers, and valued my immediate supervisors.  I was also able to obtain supervision hours and my ALC.  I did not like the "cattle call" mentality when it came to treating clients- there was always a big push for productivity to get money; I understand a business needs money to run but there was something shady about the way they treated "consumers."  I did not approve of keeping people in the system when they did not need to be there any longer.  I believe there are many unethical practices going on at the upper management level.  Individuals in the HR department were extremely rude.  The benefits were not worth it, there was no opportunity to advance, and the pay is low. There were few training opportunities but then again, those took away from productivity and you had to play catch up.  I found myself working through my lunch hour to keep up with my work load until I was forced to take a lunch hour but only to have my work load back up on me.... it was a never-ending hill to climb, only when I reached the top would there be more paperwork to go.

A colleague explained once to me that the company did not expect people to stay long and there was much truth in that because the turn over was high.  I spent a total of 18 months working as a therapist and when presented with another job opportunity (in social services, not counseling) I took it.  I didn't realize how burnt out I was, my biggest fear as a new practitioner,  because I was pushed to see so many clients daily.  They don't seek to promote the health and wellbeing of their own mental health practitioners- if they offered an extra day off once a month, and not at the practitioner's expense, that would have made a big difference in moral I think.  Quite honestly I would not change my experience for anything but I would not encourage anyone to work here.  Unfortunately AltaPointe has the monopoly on mental health in Mobile and Baldwin counties.  Before Mobile and Baldwin county merged I almost took a position at Baldwin County Mental Health only to discover of the merger and saved myself from making another mistake.

I joined this company thinking that it would be a fresh start. Initially, it went well. Quickly, I learned that it would not go well for long.  The management of the physicians specifically the CMO would talk negatively about the doctors that worked at the company.  I'd never really experienced anything like this- in their presence they would be smiling and sweet and the behind their back they would say terrible things.  It wasn't just the CMO but rather most of the upper management.  Their attitude towards physicians www terrible. I found myself in a position of being very afraid of what was being said about me behind my back and scared to speak up against what was going on.  

I can't describe how terrible it was to work for this company.  All the doctors, knew what was going on and it didn't stop because it appeared they were all scared of what would happen if they did.  After searching for a way out for two years - I left the company only to find that the management specifically one person had gone to my friend in the company and told slanderous lies about my personal life in an attempt to disparage me.

The corruption doesn't stop there.  The company receives state funds to help the poor but won't accept indigent or Medicaid patients in their hospital.  All three of the top people in the company sit on the head of the committee that makes decisions about hospital beds and successfully blocked a company from building a psychiatric hospital.  At the same time,  they attempted to extort more money from the community saying that they were the only company in the area and if they failed there would be no psychiatric care in mobile.

The company is powerful, has tons of money and that money is only spread among the very top people.  There's a culture here of extortion, lies and disregard for workers and the patients that they care for.  Read through the reviews of the company.  It's only a matter of time before someone finally investigates this company and puts an end to the corruption.

Anyone looking for a job here be warned!!

What can I say positive?  ABSolutely nothing!  Start with low low pay, and sky high demands with NO SUPPORT. They r all about money money money for the upper echelon and elite within the company which includes CEO Scheslinger.  They are uncaring soulless ppl who work in MENTAL HEALTH! It's a Joke!  If u were privy to the management decisions you would be appalled.  Clients! What clients. They r nothing but conveyor belt, in and out!  They focus on pushing them in but quality of care is simply not there. No wonder So many bad reviews. Management style is territorial with no communications and no cooperation. Riddled with wanna be nasty females and emasculated men who r coerced and scared into submission in order to keep a job. A book could be written on HOW NOT TO RUN A COMPANY!  There is clearly illegal and much unethical behavior on part of management.  Never once did I hear the welfare of the consumer. Never once.  This company needs
To be shut down by medicaid. These R your governmental dollars at work. They run a FOR PROFIT mentality with a non profit label. How does a nonprofit run a PROFIT OF MILLIONS. The government needs to shut this down. Shame shame shame. Saw ppl treated like scum. Constant constant change that resulted in nothing but garbage. No thought out decisions, just selfish one sided deals with no consideration on impact on Rest of organization. Liken them to ambulance
Chasing thieves.  There is not enough space on here to say all that needs to be said. DO NOT USE THEM FIND ANOTHER PROVIDER. U WILL BE SORRY. U will never get a straight answer or consistency and they couldn't give a hoot about you, only your BILLING POTENTIAL. stay away please. They need to be driven out of business!

This company is not the company to work for if you care about the well being of the population you serve. They are numbers driven and care about making money only. I understand it's a business and it requires money to run, but they are the helping profession and helping people should be their first priority. 

A typical work week included 50 or more hours a week when only being compensated for 37.5 hours. If you took off work, planned or unplanned, the work that you left would be waiting on you when you return. Even when that work was time sensitive. Training is nonexistent. 

The pay is very low and the work conditions are horrible. Everyone complains about the work environment and almost everyone is looking for another job. The benefits are expensive. 

The only employees that are valued are the doctors. If you disagree with a doctor and voice you opinion about it then you will be reprimanded. In a nutshell, do whatever the doctor says to keep him happy whether you think it's best or not or if you feel it is unethical. 

Your job duties will change/increase almost on a weekly basis or if they feel they can make more money by making your workload harder. There is little to no room for advancement unless you are a part of the "in crowd". Yes I said "in crowd" and yes there are clicks. 

The practices of this company really needed to investigated because there are some things that go on that are not reported as they should and some things that should not be happening at all. 

I worked as a Behavior Aide for 3 years and at first I thought this was the best laid back job ever. I soon discovered they dont care nothing about the staff or the people they take care of, its all about gaining a dollar. The night staff would be two females to watch over 10-11 men and we had no security to protect us, you had to run and hide ina office when they wanted to attack you. I tried to move into a safer position but they kept rejecting my request even though i was qualified, that's because they know its hard finding someone to work that job. I only made 8.00/hr and it aint worth what you deal with. The company doesnt care about your personal life, it wants you to evolve around them. If you work here, dont have family at home, and be prepared to be away from them alot for 12hrs. Oh and there is no such thing as a lunch break, you eat in front of the consumers if you can and its hard to do because you have to stay on guard. If you make suggestions, they ignore them and HR has no clue of what staff goes through in the group home, and if you get attacked, nothing will be done because they are mentally ill. If you call off for a family emergency or because you are sick, they use your pto and you are written up, every time you call off is a write up and they care less about what happened. This job is for a single person with no child and hopefully you in shape to protect yourself from a possible attack.

Almost all people working for this company are absolutely miserable due to the overwhelming expectations placed on employees.  Compensation is poor and working 50+ hours a week is normal (and routinely expected, as well as uncompensated) for salaried employes. Most supervisors lack empathy of employees' experiences and treat them poorly. There is little to no room for growth in the company; trainings are a joke and led by persons who sometimes have less knowledge than their audience.  There are no salary increases even with raising costs of living (unless you live at work to appease your supervisors) or ways to advance in the company as promotions are nearly unheard of. You have very little time off as vacation and sick leave are somehow the same thing which means your first year there you will only have one day off a month... burn out is imminent and unavoidable in such conditions.  You spend more time on your computer than you do with clients, which reduces effectiveness of care. Overall, this is the worst place you could ever work. Find a company that will actually care about you. AltaPointe is heartless. Turnover there is frequent; most people do not even last two years because of the terrible work conditions. Please, for your sake, look elsewhere! I ignored warnings and took a job there anyway. I loved my co-workers but most time with them consisted of us crying over our lunches...

I worked for this company for 4+ years...I learned a lot from working here...things such as how to manage 10+ cases at a time under extreme stress and no support from your superior, how to survive on a low income, etc...these things prepared me to work at ANY poorly managed agency and to appreciate teamwork...however I left and now work at an amazing hospital where it is not a requirement to do 100+ roles...the best thing about working at Altapointe is the lasting friendships I have made...the hardest part is walking into the building everyday knowing that oppression is real...and don't try to move up in the company if your are not an butt kisser or Caucasian...management is nonexistent unless there is an audit...and oh...management will throw you under the bus, so don't count on them to have your back on anything...but as we all know you reap what you sow...so despite the negative, I made sure that everything I did reflected God and my character...and it has truly paid off in my favor...now the harvest that Altapointe is currently reaping...that's another story!!! :)  The only way out is to relocate, whether that be to another state or another city, which is what many previous employees have done (I know because I keep in touch with them). The morale of the story: You better have a close relationship with God and understand the impact of bondage and demonic activity if you work here!!!

The only positive thing to say about AltaPointe is the ability to work with others who care for the mentally ill.  
At AltaPointe you'll find raises are non-existent.  Hours have been cut to 36/week with a small raise to make up the cut in hours.  It actually led to a pay cut for everyone involved.  While the CEO stated to the County Commission that he had the lowest paid employees in Mobile for healthcare, he was also planning to cut everyones hours and pay.  Holidays have been removed unless you are scheduled to work them.  Retirement changes constantly.  At one time they were with RSA, an excellent retirement fund with the state.  Now, they've got another retirement fund that isn't half as good.  They seem to change retirement funds every few years.  It makes me question whether they're funding anything other than the CEO's pocket.  The money from the County and bond funds seem to go for takeovers and not to patient care or employee morale. 
This is also a dangerous place to work in regards to safety.  When you are attacked, and you  will be attacked, by a violent consumer it takes a team effort to protect yourself.   Then you may expect to be reprimanded and possibly fired for what they call assault.  
Overall, replacing the CEO would be a positive step forward. His goal seems to be to take over mental health in the state at the expense of the employees, patients and community safety.

I worked for Altapointe for several years. It was a overall an easy job but management could make it more difficult than what it is. You work with patients who can be sweet and going through things and then the most physical. I got punched in the jaw by a patient before and nothing was done to the patient. One of my co workers had feces thrown on them and management said "You know what you signed up for". They tend to put African Americans on the most physical patients even if you are a woman. A nurse stated "Blacks can handle it better". When the patients get into a fight you better be ready to hold your own for a couple of minutes because the doctors and therapist will run leaving you alone until Security gets there. The pay is not enough and the 12 hours can get to you. You have your easy days but then there are bad. The feed the nurses and administration free every friday but the CNAs and BAs dont. I was told that the coordinators will believe anything that they say over the CNAs and BAs. They dont appreciate the CNAs and BAs as they should. This job is not so much physical then it is Mentally draining. You work 3 days out the week for 36hours then you might get Hrd (you can have that day off without pay) If you have PTO you can use that but Why should you use the money you worked for? You have a nurse there that claims she is a witch and it can be alot of drama too.

Was an extremely poor work environment. A lot of employees on night shift would go in the rooms with the patients and would just go to sleep. Regardless of how dangerous that is working with mental patients, it made it extremely difficult to get your job done efficiently because you always have to do your work and the work of all the people who are sleeping and that disappeared for half the shift. Their coordinators do not discipline the employees who sleep and ditch their shifts etc. and then do absolutely nothing to thank the employees that actually do. They never have enough of or quality security so if a patient starts to get physically violent you never know if security"s even watching their monitors to know that they're needed on the unit and even if there are a few nights where there's enough security in the facility they were usually sleeping & a lot of people got hurt because of violent patients and help didn't come quick enough or at all in some instances. They are also desperately understaffed in CNA's and behavioral aides so one way or another you just always end up doing the work of three or 4 people and you never have a coordinator that cares enough to help or to even lend their support when needed so it's just a very stressful & unsafe work environment in general.
