A Typical Day with Amada Senior Care
My time working with Amada Senior Care was, without a doubt, the best work experience I've had. My days were not only manageable but truly rewarding. A typical day began with arriving at my client's home, where I was always greeted with a warm welcome. We'd start the morning with some light conversation and a quick check-in before I assisted them with their morning routine, which might include help with dressing, grooming, or preparing breakfast.
The rest of the day was filled with a variety of activities that were tailored to the client's needs and interests. This could range from grocery shopping and running errands to preparing meals and helping with light housekeeping. Some days, we'd simply spend time together, playing cards, working on a puzzle, or going for a short walk. The work was never physically demanding, but it required a lot of care, attention, and compassion. The clients I worked with were the most genuinely kind people, and it made every day feel less like a job and more like spending time with a friend.
What I Learned
This role taught me a great deal about the importance of empathy and patience. I learned to be a more attentive listener and to appreciate the unique life stories and wisdom of my clients. The experience also significantly improved my problem-solving skills, as I had to adapt to different situations and needs on the fly. More than anything, I learned the value of a simple, kind gesture and how much of a difference it can make in someone's daily life.
Management and Workplace Culture
The people at Amada Senior Care are the loveliest I've ever had the pleasure of working with. The management team was incredibly supportive and always just a phone call away. They were attentive to my needs and the needs of the clients, making sure every placement was a great fit for both parties.
The workplace culture at Amada is one of kindness and mutual respect. Everyone, from the office staff to fellow caregivers, genuinely cared about the well-being of the clients and each other. This supportive environment made me feel valued and appreciated, which is not something you find everywhere.
The Hardest and Most Enjoyable Parts
The most challenging part of the job was emotionally detaching myself at the end of the day. You build real connections with these clients, and it can be difficult to say goodbye, even temporarily. The job requires you to be emotionally present and invested, and sometimes, that can be tough.
However, this challenge was far outweighed by the most enjoyable part of the job: the relationships. My clients became like family to me. The most rewarding moments were the small things—sharing a laugh, hearing a story from their past, or simply seeing them happy and comfortable in their own home. Knowing that I was making a positive impact on their lives was incredibly fulfilling and made the work truly meaningful.

The best part of the job for me is two fold, obviously first are the clients, caring for our elderly is a privilege and it is the least we can do for the generation that raised us. 

Secondly, as a care giver I can give my best because I know if I need anything all I have to do is call the office.  If I am worried about the client, or have a care issue, or a health concern and feel the need for additional support, that help and support is a phone call away.   

A typical day for me is like spending the day with an aunt / good friend.  (I have the same client 4 days a week and have for about a year.) Routine is comforting for her, so we do things at the same time and in the same way every day.  

I let myself in around 8:45 and check to see if she's up or sleeping in.  Once she's dressed, with very little help from me, she'll sit in the kitchen while I fix her coffee and cook her breakfast. We chat about anything that might be news since I last left, and what she has on her agenda for the day.  

While she eats, I straighten up the kitchen, make the bed and start a load of laundry, if needed.  Then we sit and have a cup of coffee. I try and keep her busy until 11:00.  I'll encourage her to walk around her house or show me her plants or quilts. Sometimes we will play a game of cards or work on a word puzzle.   Lately, most days she just doesn't have the energy for more than walking from the dining room to her chair in the living room.  So we sit and we talk.  She tells the most amazing stories from her 94 years.  

Around 11 she's falling asleep in her chair and I let her sleep while I fix lunch and finish with any thing that needs done.  (Sweeping the floor, watering the plants, folding laundry or taking out the trash. )  When she walks to the table for lunch she always says "I just ate breakfast.  I'm not very hungry."   And I always reply "Ok, well come sit with me anyway."  She always eats all of her lunch. 

I am so thankful that this little old lady has become one of my closest friends.  She tells me her fears, her opinions and her memories.  She trust me to take care of her, to treat her with respect and kindness.  She knows her health is my top priority when I am with her. She also knows I love her like I would my aunt. 

I make this job sound like a fairy tale, and it mostly is.  But it's hard too.  You can not help but become emotionally attached, or at least I can't help it.  It's very difficult to watch someone you take care of go down hill.  It's hard to watch them not be able to do something today they could do a week ago. It's hard to watch them in pain.  It can be physically hard at times too, but not often.  And old people can be as difficult as a 2 or 3 year old toddler! 

The hardest part of this job is we all know how this relationship might end.  Death is never easy to deal with, or think about.  Unless you're 94 and then it's ok to talk about death. It's important to be able to talk about it.  It's important to be able to listen.

The job at hand was very rewarding. Clear sense of purpose. Clients were AMAZING. The only problem I experienced was that the office staff was poorly organized and lacked good communication. They were very friendly however, very frustrating to work for. They started off by scheduling me hours that weren’t within my availability and this caused me to question as to whether I could stay as an employee as it was straining my work/life balance. They would request documents that I had already turned in numerous times. It took them about a month to properly get my direct deposit set up which was annoying. Also, one person would tell you one thing and then the next person would tell you something different as if there was no checking in amongst the management. I finally quit when they scheduled me a time I never committed to. Lastly, it was always disheartening to hear so many bad reviews from the clients when I would show up about other employees who did their job horribly and the overall bad experience they’ve had with the company. As much as employees reflect the company, the company also reflects onto us. Wasn’t fun having to tell them that I’m sorry they’ve had those bad experiences. Many of these clients are vets and they deserve the very best. I since moved on to an overall better, more professional company to work for who also certifies their employees as well as pays a higher hourly rate. Their turnover rate is pretty bad and for good reason. Hopefully honest reviews like this will make an impact on how they conduct their business.

Since my hire in February 2020, the world has been in utter turmoil. Starting a job literally a month before the world shut down was pretty scary. Didn't know what to expect, but did expect to be laid off or let go due to the pandemic. That never happened. Amada and the office actually grew! We now have an office staff of 7 and are a VERY tight-knit team. We all work together very well and care about one another. 

Amada isn't your typical business. We serve the seniors in our communities with some of the best care staff you will ever find! The schedulers work tirelessly to assure that the proper caregiver is with the right client. The recruiters work closely with scheduling to do the same thing. If a case is more than what home care should be handling, the owner will suggest other avenues for care such as assisted living or a full-time care facility. The focus is on the client and not as much on the almighty dollar. That means a lot. 

Our Caregivers are AWESOME! We do more than just have someone with a pulse join the team. They have to interview just like the office staff does. If they do not meet the quality of care we expect, we do not proceed. Again, the care of our clients is paramount. We offer competitive pay, bonuses, contests, raffles, etc. as added incentives for our hard working Caregivers.

The low pay is not unique to Amada, it's a problem throughout the industry. Amada pays $10.50/hr for first level caregivers, $11/hr on weekends, and $12/hr for VIP clients. The scheduling and office staff (Pearland franchise) are understanding and easy to work with. For instance, I was able to confide in them that a male client's comments were making me feel unsafe and they immediately reassigned me without making it seem like my fault. The clients are in very diverse situations, mostly male, lots of veterans, some just need help reaching things or having someone to talk to and some need full bodily care. I've worked in trailer parks, gated communities, and penthouses and enjoyed working in all situations.
One negative I've heard from several clients is that when the owners come to talk about care options, they'll often promise higher levels of care, immediate permanent placements, or other expectations that don't get passed down the line. Sometimes the notes versus the client's actual needs don't quite match. 
I also wish there was a bit more hands on training at the initial orientation like making sure you know how to transfer someone properly, most current method for using a gait belt, wiping someone properly, etc...
Overall, I like this job and it's providing me some needed income while I prepare for a career in medicine. 

I was constantly over scheduled, patients calling to complain that I'm not there because I just finished at my SCHEDULED time with the last client. Sometimes even worse, scheduled until 2 with a patient but scheduled with the next at 1:30.Constantly if you were sick you could inform the office you were vomiting, and they ask you to take meds and come in anyway or to make the next person, putting the health of their workers and patients at risk. Forced to quit because I was NOT ALLOWED to call in! They were aware I went to an urgent care the night before and I was trying to get the information to send a doctors note the was requested, no response, however when I needed to inform them (3 hours in advance, in addition to them being aware of my trip to urgent care the night prior) I couldn't make it, and they told me no, I needed to be at my shifts. I went to the ER later that day. I had been horribly ill, vomiting, and too weak to walk on my own and there was no choice, come in or get laid off for not showing up to the shifts. I was basically quiet-fired for getting sick. All this after they heard nothing but good about me from clients, people calling just to say they had a good experience during my shift, and i constantly was flexible and took extra shifts that they asked of me, but all for nothing when they don't care about you i guess. If you want to work here you've got to be perfect, never sick, and have a clone of yourself.

Good Mornin.
My day starts off greeting my client & family members. 
Then I start my cleaning up of the kitchen, let’s say for the 4 hours at one clients house I do cleaning, and laundry and every now and then may fix them lunch.
 
I’ve learned how to be more understanding, even caring about people and their feelings. And how their body and mind changes at the drop of a dime.

When it’s comes to The management part of the company. I would say commutation is getting better, but still needs some work as fate the scheduling goes and the clicking in and out has to get better when your at a clients and you have no service. Way to many message in three different places. Last minute assignment notice not good either.
Culture at work I really don’t know about. It’s diverse and I like that.

The hardest part of this job is tying to keep clients & family members on the same page, for some anyway. Getting them to go to the classes if need be and just be more patient with them as well. And feeling like there’s just not enough time to spend with them. 
The best part about my job is giving back to those who paved the way for us and show how much the are respected and appropriate.! 

I’d say over all it’s a job that you gotta know this is what you really want to do. If not don’t waist anyone’s times. 

If your looking for paid vacation, or sick time more then 2 days out of the year.. This company isn’t for you..

The manager’s performance is significantly concerning due to pervasive issues related to professionalism, consistent conduct, and fair resource allocation. The manager frequently demonstrates an inconsistent application of company policies and standards, often failing to uphold the standards they demand from the team, which has created an environment of low morale and inconsistent accountability (hypocrisy). Furthermore, I have observed a pattern of disparate treatment and perceived bias in task assignments and performance feedback, where decisions appear influenced by personal preference rather than objective performance metrics. This approach to team management often manifests as unprofessional and at times retaliatory (spiteful) interactions.
Most critically, the manager demonstrated a severe lack of professional judgment and communication by reducing my scheduled weekly hours without any prior warning, explanation, or formal discussion. This abrupt, unilateral action caused immediate financial distress and signifies a disregard for basic workforce management standards and employee stability. To address these issues, the manager requires immediate intervention and training focused on implementing fair and consistent management practices, professional conduct, and transparent communication, particularly regarding decisions that directly impact an employee’s livelihood.
